demise of the glass city open

What a shame that we are going to lose such a great tournament. I have attended every Glass city open since they brought it back. I simply can not believe there was nothing to be done to save it. There was always huge crowds that attended that event, i just dont get it.
I was always willing to pay $150 for the vip seating because it was well worth it. Even last year when vip seating only seated you in the bleechers i still paid the same amount as when it seated me next to the pooltable. In the years past vip seating sat you next to the table while last year it only sat you in the bleechers. Because of some new air conditoning system they lost seats. So in that event they moved vip seats to the bleechers, and the place was still packed. The whole point is that people love this event and didnt mind paying the same amount as they did last year to get in to watch.........knowing that the seating was worse. People even paid $300 plus just to sit next to the pool table to watch.........
ITS A SHAME

The cost of the GCO was just TOO EXPENSIVE for spectators. Bells laid out he cost (hundreds of dollars for the every day fan just to see pool players over a 3 day period). Also the artical mentioned the cost as well.

The GCO should have only been a 4 day tourney not a week long tourney as the last 4 years have been. I know, I've been there the last two. Also, too many hands in the pie for anyone of them to make a real killing on the event.

Remember too that alot of top players want free entries, hotel rooms, meals and appearence fees, just to be there.

The tourney, format, players and scheule was not the problem. Profit and expenses were.....

Thanks for the memories guys....

Ya know its SAD to see a good tournament like this being cancelled.

Expecially if a Pool Hall has the capacity to run this kind of tournament. And i dont know of any GOOD pool halls that wouldnt want to hold a tournament like this too.

I guess this seems to be a common occurance that is happening with Bigger tournaments. If these tournaments was held at Pool Halls there wouldnt be problems like this.

But that also is a problem is finding a pool hall that keeps up thier equipment, so you dont end up with bum equipment. But on the other hand if a pool hall was chosen for a tournament like the GCO, and the tables that were going to be used had NEW felt on them and all of them had GOOD rails on them, then it wouldnt be a problem.

I Think playing at Hall Of Fame Billiards in Warren, Mi would be a good replacement sight for the GCO.

I was at last year's GCO... It was a great event, I'm very saddened to hear that it won't be continuing. I enjoyed watching Corey and Keith on the challenge table. The amateur 8-ball team tournament was very fun, even despite the fact that a few pros managed to play on teams. You should have seen the nifty house-rack Jason Kirkwood did against one of my buddies... OMG it was sick. My buddy Mikey slammed into the rack as hard as ever, and about five balls came out! From there it was a very interesting soft-break-style game of eight ball, with Jason barely prevailing. I think they both played safe for about the first 15-20 shots.

Anyways, it's such a loss to see the GCO perish. Perhaps someday it will return...
