I don't recall ever seeing any 7'ers. Tons of 9'ers, though. Not sure why they would have any small tables, since none of the normal Derby events are played on them AFAIK.

I think last year the smaller tables were across the street at the Executive Inn or something like that. A few years before, the smaller tables were upstairs if I recall.

All 7 footers?

I did not know all the tables were 7 footers. Do they play all of the matches (10-ball, 9-ball, 1-pocket and bank) on 7 footers? I'm just curious as I have never been to the DCC.

Good to know...

I guess the answers were being posted as I was typing...soory about that.

No, the 9-ball, 1p, and bank tournaments, as well as the ring games and one pocket and 14.1 challenges are all played on Diamond 9'ers. If there are 7'ers there, then they must just be there for action purposes unless there's another tournament that coincides with the DCC that I'm not aware of (which is entirely possible).

Now that you mention it, I think I do recall somebody saying something about some small tables at the Executive Inn. I guess I never wandered over there to check it out.

There was one 7' table at the Executive West where the Action Room and Tournament Room were. The rest were 9' tables.

At the Executive East, an entire banquet hall was filled with 7' tables for other league and mini tournaments.

Gotcha. I think I must have selective vision that sorts small tables into the same category as wallpaper and potted plants - things that are interesting to look at, but have no practical purpose for me personally. :D

I do enjoy watching good bar box players match up on the little guys, however.

There was a a 7ft in the action room at the west. I played a few sets on it myself. I remember seeing a post or either talking with someone( can't remember) where they were gonna have a few more to match up on this year. The ones across the street last year didn't play very well.

After talking to Justin from TAR yesterday, it is unlikely that there will be any 7' Diamonds at Derby in January. There was one last year but not much action on it.

uh...........

I wonder if he was only talking about the one in the Action Room. There were dozens of 7' tables at the Derby. I doubt Justin went to hang out at the room that had them for any reason.

With the exception of the one 7' Diamond in the action room, all of the 7' tables were across the street at the Executive Inn for amateur events. There are no amateur events at the Derby in 2009, hence no 7' tables.

Not sure. The table got a lot of play last year but only one action event. That was Bobby Pickle playing someone where they had to drink a beer every 15 minutes. I'm sure if Justin and Chad from Tar can line up some good action matches they will have one put in.

Didn't they have the 7' at the clarion last year because they had 3 cushion and trick shot at executive east.

Sorry, my mistake, the 7' tables were at the Clarion. Nothing there this year.

Bad for business

The amateur events brought the crowd to the DCC. Isn't that one of the reasons the Olympics did not have much success. I am from the area and the local players fill the event. They are the ones that buy from the vendors. My father and I have purchased 30+ cues over the years at the DCC. I have noticed since the league events have been moved from the main venue, the floor traffic has been light. I am looking forward to this year. I hope in the future more tables can be added like in the years past for amateur events.
