As many players in Des Moines know Big Dog Billiards has re-opened a beautiful new facility in town. One thing is missing though. A billiard table. I stopped in tonight and talked to one of the owners about putting a table in.
He listened to my pitch and didn't rule it out. Although he did state the lack of players and possible lack of usage as the biggest hurdle to putting one in.
My request to area players is to stop in and also ask about putting a table in. Maybe with enough people asking Des Moines can finally get a table. Thanks. Doug

Hello

Bill Smith "Mr3Cushion"

It is a shame that they have no tables in Des Moines. I'm sure they would stay busy if they had a nice table. They tried one at their old location for a while, but it was and old T-rail and they had snooker cloth on it. Played short and slow. Couldn't figure out why no one was playing!!?

They have one of the best players in the Midwest living there. Has to drive 50 miles to Marshalltown to play. I'm sure if they had a nice table Lupe would no doubt attract many players. J

Yep, Told them exactly the same thing about 4 months ago. Unfortunately it wasn't the owner I was talking to. No doubt Lupe would get the table going.

I talked to Jim. Randy is his partner. Please keep trying. And tell your friends to stop in and inquire about it. I am a relative beginner to the game and also make the trip to Marshalltown to play. I really think if enough people stop in we can get a table there. I'm going to stop in again next week.

Well, I went into Big Dog Billiards for a follow up from a few weeks ago. Very disappointed. I was shot down. They just don't think a table would get any play. Plus the cost of a table were the reasons. But I'm not giving up!!! To all the carom players or even if you don't play but know someone who does. Please stop in and inquire about putting a table in. I'm convinced if they just knew how many billiard players there are in DM and the surrounding areas it might change their minds. I'm in for the long haul. Put out the word!!!! Please help!!!!! Thanks

Here a thought... Ask the Owner: If a group of players was to buy a table, would he sublease monthly an area to the group to put the table in. Those players play free on the table when in the Room. But the owner can charge other an hourly cost. a Win win for Players, Owner, and 3C. Plus down the Road the owner can buy the table if he see how busy it been play on.

I offered the owners of the billiard room there a VERY nice table, at a VERY GOOD price. They were NOT receptive to the offer at all!

I've been trying to contact Lupe Cruz for 3 weeks, I was told He was interested in a table, He WON'T answer his phone

Billiardshot, Thanks for the idea. It's an angle I hadn't thought of. I don't have a lot of money myself but had thought of getting a group of players to pitch in and buy a table for them. That eliminates that reason for not putting one in. I think if they knew they could keep the table busy they would put one in tomorrow. It's more about the money than providing a service to the pool/billiard community. Mr3Cushion, thanks for your interest. Any help is appreciated. This may take some work.

A table doesn't have to be expensive.
I gave my old one away when I replaced it with new.

The main point is to get a table in there. It would be perfect if it were a European table but that's not 100% required. Just a table that's not a gaff. My 100 year old table had great angles.

I'll be in Des Moines in about 3-4 weeks and will make it a point to stop by for a little push.

3Kushn, That would be VERY cool. Thank You. Before pushing them to buy a table I think what needs to be done is to show them there are players that would use the table. JJ thanks. Tell your friends to stop in and talk to them. You know way more billiard players than I do. Maybe after a while we can prove to them that a table would get used. Thanks again.
