Detroit Room Question

OK, I am too lazy to search archives, and there may not be anything about my specific questions.;) Anyway, I had to go to Detroit area recently for some family/in-law stuff and may have to go back. I had no time for pool last time and might not next time, but if I do I might like the chance to go hit balls somewhere. We will probably stay near the airport and family activities are concentrated in the suburbs around there. Wayne/Romulus/Dearborn. We will probably have a rental car, but I don't know my way around there. Looking for nice enough rooms with good equipment in the suburbs, ideally with a billiard table since I seldom get to play that. Action unimportant. I won't be gambling except possible trivial stakes if someone wanted to. TIA.

There is a poolroom called the Rack in Livonia, owned by Steve Lomako (very nice guy) on Joy Road between Middlebelt and Merriman. They have 9 foot Gold Crowns and bar tables. I believe it's within 20 minutes of the airport. There are one pocket and nine ball players there.

There is also a poolroom a few minutes away from the Rack called Bogarts Billiard Cafe that has billiard tables (also in Livonia).

Thanks. Checked out the maps and they are pretty easy to get to from our hotel. Don't know if I will get there or not. Sounds like I am more likely to go to Bogarts, any more info on it? Nice place, etc...??

Bogarts used to be a big action place about ten years ago or so. Since then, it mostly caters to the recreational players (except for those who play three cushion billiards). I know they have food and a full bar. The quality of the pool tables are not so good, but I couldn't tell you about the billiard tables. If you do decide you want to play pool, I definitely recommend the Rack.

Just in case you were unaware, Steve L. is an AZB member (and contributor to the AZB room at DCC). I would go OUT OF MY WAY to patronize his establishment (and I've never been there before). I can tell you that a person serious enough about the game to post here would be the kind of person who's business I would like to support. I will just bet that players are taken care of there. Just my $.02.

Thanks for all the comments.

If you are looking to play Billiards then definately go to Bogarts, 4 verhoeven tables kept in way better shape than anything else and alot of decent players and all of them will play split time. Once in awhile they go goofy and play for time but they are all nice guys anyway.

We are both 15 minutes from the airport, a straight shot right down Merriman Rd.

If you come and get a chance to get out, call the pool room here for any info / directions. Bring some of the family if you get a chance, the pool time is on me.

Thanks, much appreciated. The wife and 3 month old don't play. ("yet" applies to one of them, LOL)

I will need to be smooth asking permission to go once we are on the ground visiting grandma/great grandma. ;) But evening might work. We'll see.

Thanks for all the replies, but the trip will have to be delayed. Too many cars upside down on the way to the airport. We went home. Oh well. But we will probably get there again at some point.
