Bob,
Here's a couple of options.
System Three
West System
Each of them has their basic resin and various hardeners to give quick, medium, or long cure times. They both come in a big range of sizes, so you could get a small kit of each first, to see which one you prefer.

Yeah, I hate those newer little tubes also. Can't find the original bigger tubes, it seems they don't have them in stores anymore, and I am down to only 2 bigger tubes of it left. Seems like I've still seen them online somewhere though.

I use several types of epoxy depending on how I feel at the time, and what I'm using it for. I really like the t-88, & quick cure also, and they come in larger 2 part bottles. Also on the shelf life, I have had the devcon go bad from sitting in the tube after opened too long, but don't seem to have that problem with them. I still use devcon though, and feel for somethings, it's suited very well for.

Another thing I like, is that seems like I have some control over the hardness of the t-88, without overly effecting how well it cures, which comes in handy in some applications ;) . I"ve had repairs come in, where this was attempted with other glues, but did not cure well, and came loose over time. Recently had one come in like that, the glue inside was like melted taffy, and everything screwed completely apart easily by hand. Somehow it lasted for 20-25 years like that, with no rattles or buzzes. I have no idea why it did not come apart sooner, except maybe the clearcote helped hold it together until It gave way. One thing I have noticed Is if concerned with buzzing, may be more to the hardness of the glue then some think. This cue did not buzz at all, but the glue still was alittle too soft/elastic, like it was melted or something. That was alittle too extreme for Me.

Another thing I should mention is the t-88 can be mixed too hard, and become brittle also.

The Quick cure is probably more like the devcon 5 minute IMO, but with a slightly longer drying time, and the hardener is clear. The t-88 is more of the devcon 2 ton type, but has a longer drying time, and is supposed to stick to oily woods well.

LOL, I must have 20-30 different types of glue with 6-10 being epoxies, there are alot more out there, and still not dead set on anything as an all around epoxy. I'm becoming so picky that I sometimes use different types & brands in different places, and Makes it hard to recomend, but The t-88 & QQ seem to cover alot of ground between the 2 of them.
If Your working a tournament, I'm sure the devcon 5 minute still may be the best option for ferrules though, due to it's superfast drying time.

Loctite makes several type of epoxies in the larger tubes like the devcon use to come in, altough have not experiemented with those much yet, and have no real idea how good they are. i have several types, but been happy with what i have been using lately, so have not even tried them out. They use to be in stores not long ago also. Not sure if they still are.

I'll let you know if I run across any devcon online again, and save the link.
Good luck, Greg

I keep some Devcon 2-ton around in the injecter tubes for small jobs but mostly I use West System for strong glueing jobs and for quick setting epoxy I use G-5 that comes in 16oz. bottles. It is, I believe, made by West Systems as that is where I get it from. It is very economical costing about half of the price of Devcon and I've never had any problems with it. A quart ( 16oz. A and 16oz. B ) is about 35.00 which comes out to about a dollar an ounce.

its always nice to have mixing cups

local medical supply house carries graduated cups by the hundred,,,,,3 bucks a sleeve

Speaking of Mixing cups.
I picked up around half a dozen Stainless Steel Cups at out local junk/metal/scrap yard. It's amazing the things you can find.
They aren't graduated and i'm not sure how much they'll hold exactly, but a full pump (resin and hardener) of West System will fit nicely.
:D

Thanks,

Jon

P.S. There was really no point to this post.
