Developing Stamina, any tips?

Can you beat the guy just freewheeling? If you can, it helps conserve mental stamina a lot. I do it against opponents I know I will beat so that I am not worn out for when I have to play stronger opponents.

I am glad you mentioned this, no I cant unless he is having a bad night. This is why I play him because I have to play good to beat him. I think I just need my new level of play to become more subconscious so that I am not having to focus so hard.

First, I did a search on this topic before starting this thread and did not find much

So here is some background. I have been playing a pretty good player every Tuesday for a couple months now gambling cheap 10 ball sets. At first he beat me but started breaking even and now I am winning sometimes, but feel I should win a lot more. Tonight for example, I have been practicing a lot lately on my break and CB control and it showed big time. Our first two sets I beat him 5-0 and 5-1! I was playing the best I ever have and felt for the first time like I had the CB “on a string!” Problem was I started breaking dry and then started missing occasionally and not hitting good safes. I took a 5 hour energy at the start because I am in the Army and wake up at 05:00AM; we start gambling at 1900 (07:00PM) and usually finish around 22:00 (10:00PM) which is typically 4 sets. My hands started to feel shaky and I think it caused me to start missing. I took it because I usually start getting tired after a couple of sets and start playing worse, and of course he comes back and gets even with me.

So to my question, what is the best way to build up stamina? I need to build some stamina to last at least 4-5 sets. I think maybe a part of it is I might be mentally relaxing after playing so well and it bites me on the a$$. I want to be able to last without using energy or caffeine products because they make me jittery and it affects my stroke.

Does anyone have some suggestions? Maybe never mentally relaxing, but how?

I used to play bad when i am tired, but after 30 years i learned it is not because of that, it was simply lack of knowledge of all 4000 pool shots possibilities. It takes one or two misses to loose a match, cannot take any shot lightly, even the simple straight one.

I find washing my face with cold water and drinking water recharge batteries. or try to jack up the bet couple of times you will shoot much better.

Go to the bathroom wash your face with cold water, extend the break for 5 min if you can, that will charge your battery; stay away from caffeine drink water.

If you are playing 4/5 races to 5 I doubt that stamina is the issue. It sounds to me like you simply need to believe you can win a little more. Self image is a big factor In your performance and it is hard to perform outside of your comfort zone for any extended amount of time (being in the zone excluded).

It sounds to me like the story of the car salesman who believed he was a 12 car a month salesman and one month he had only sold 6 cars going into the final week and low and behold he sold 6 more cars that final week. The next month he had 11 cars sold going into the final week but on the last week of this month he only sold one car.

Sometimes you can limit yourself with your beliefs and I think that is what is happening here. The good news though is it sounds like your confidence in beating him is rising.

DoubleD - "the snickers bar suggestion is absolutely asinine"

Both Darren Everett and myself have used that asinine method for a very long time to gain a couple of hours worth of energy. We must both be asinine, but it works.

You are probably right (but I'll keep doing it.. I mean LOOK at me, I'm the picture of health! ;) ). Three hours of pool should not get him to the point of needing a boost. I'm thinking his major problem is that he just plain doesn't get enough sleep. He should speak to his commander about that. :)
