Diamond Pro & Light

Hello all. I am a new forum member, and as such I may be posting in the wrong place. If so let me know, but I figured who would have more experience with this issue than experienced mechanics?

I've been playing for close to 40 years, growing up with a nice 9' table in my childhood home, but I've never had my own table in my adult life. I decided to finally make it happen, and after blowing out a couple walls I've made room for a beautiful, previously owned, Diamond Professional 8' Pro size table (46" x 92").

Now I'm planning on hanging a Diamond light above it, but the odd height and configuration of my ceiling will not allow the 9' Full Size light (102" lengthwise). So I'm trying to determine if the 7' Full Size light (78" lengthwise) would still work. I also cannot raise the light higher than 78" above the floor, which just happens to be Diamond's recommended height.

Now I understand the intentional construction of the light's grid is to focus the light straight down on the playing surface, even with the slight projection angle, as well as reflect it in various angles to eliminate any shadows on the playing surface. But while their light sizes cover their tables lengthwise, none of them cover them widthwise. So that would lead me to believe if the width covers outside the light's dimensions, I would also have some room lengthwise as well. My goal is to only have the playing surface, including the rail diamonds, lit. But I ONLY want the playing surface and rail diamonds lit. I want it relatively dark outside the table dimensions.

Hopefully I've explained this well enough so that those of you experienced with this light can comment on whether you think the area lit will reach the head and foot rails of my 92" table with the 78" light?

I would appreciate any insight anyone can provide.

Get the Diamond 7ft full size light, hang it at what ever height you can closest to 50 inches over the playing surface. For more light, paint the inside of the light high gloss white and everything will be fine. One of the biggest reasons for hanging the 9ft light at 50 inches over a 9ft table, is to help to avoid hitting your head when playing pool. You won't have that problem with a 7ft light over a pro 8ft pool table at 45 inches or higher. When you paint the inside of the light high gloss white, it's like doubling the lights inside the cabinet.

Coming from the King, there is no longer any doubt in my mind. I hadn't thought of painting the interior gloss white, but that makes perfect sense. I just measured it one more time, and the light should end up 47" from the playing surface, which should work well.

Thank you very much for your help.

Just confirming your own first thoughts is all. I've always said, "if you have an idea to do something, do it first, ask questions later" meaning that your first impressions are usually right, so don't talk yourself out of a good idea as a trade off for a bad one.

Your welcome.

What is the ideal measurement from the bottom of the leg to the top of the slate on a Diamond?

30 inches, but that can change depending on the floor, otherwise only one corner of the playing surface is going to be at 30 inches, the rest are going to be higher. I worked on a table once up in Index, WA that had a 4 inch drop in the floor from the head of the table to the foot...what a difference...LOL
