Diamond Smart Table Rails

I recently purchased a used Diamond Smart Table with rail rubber that had all of the properties of a high quality sheetrock. I purchased some K-55 rubber (Tour Edition) from a local supplier since Diamond was out of the black rubber and I need to get this table going.

I have glued the new rubber on with the nose height a little under 1.5" (the same height as on my diamond Professional). The rails are not covered at this point because when you fire a ball into the new rail (hard) it will come off airborne.

Is this something that I should expect? Is this being caused by the ball hitting exposed rubber as opposed to cloth (higher coefficient of friction)? Could this rubber be crap?

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Cushions need to be covered or the ball sticks and hops. Wrap a rail and check it. It should be just fine.

the cushions that got hard. were they the black ones? And Pat's right about the rail cloth.

I seriously doubt they were the black ones. We just did a room full of early smart tables. Rubber was rock hard. Replaced with the black. Man,they are nice!

They were red.

I covered the new rails last night and they work great. Thanks for the help, Guys.
