Diamond Table used for the 2005 US Open

I was just watching a couple youtube videos of the 2005 US Open...

(for example)...

...and the video reminded me of the beautiful Diamond table they built for the TV arena that year. If I were to own my own Diamond, that's exactly how I would want mine to look like (except with traditional green cloth).

Does anyone know what type of wood they used for that particular table, and if that wood is an option for customers?

Also, if you were to buy a Diamond, what stain would you use for the wood? And what exactly is "Dymondwood" and would you recommend it?

I have some of the Accu-Stats videos of that US Open and recall them talking about the table being made of cocobolo. The commentators were saying Diamond could have made like 100 cues out of the amount of wood used on that table, which leads me to believe it would be VERY expensive to have a table made like that. I don't have the answers to your other questions.

I have bought a Diamond, being delivered within two weeks. My table is a standard Oak table, with cherry stain. Personally, I've always like cherry stained wood, so it worked out for me.

Dymondwood is just regular wood impregnated with resins and lacquer type material that make the wood extremely resistant to burn marks, scratches, scuffing, etc.. Costs a few pennies, but definitely worth it.

Personally, I am getting the table in order to be a practice monster. I don't particularly care what it looks like, because for me, it is first and foremost a tool, and secondary to that function it is a furniture piece.

My table is a Diamond Pro/Am, and I'd have to say, it's not the prettiest table in the world. I'd much rather have a Diamond Pro, because to me, it has cleaner looks. But, the Pro/Am was what was available, and as I said, functionality and convenience trumps looks in my case.

I'm sure that I'll be happy with the Pro/Am.

It was cocobolo, and if I remember correctly, it was auctioned for $25,000.

Nice. Does this table purchase mean you've finally rotated back to the world? (If so your profile is a little out of date.) Or do UPS ship to the Green Zone now?
 
Thanks all for the info. I know nothing about cues, so I wouldn't even recognize cocobolo. All I know is that table looks real purty. I'm guessing cocobolo wood is not an option that Diamond gives to its customers. :( Even so, it's not like I can afford it...lol.

Any advice on what stains people recommend on a Diamond table?

I used to have a Diamond Pro with the matching light. I chose oak with a cherry stain.

BTW, I'll be at Babineau's tonight if you want to meet up. Look for the bald guy (I shaved my head) with his left arm in a sling (long story).

I have yet to step foot in a pool hall down here. Actually, I haven't some pool since February. Have been too busy with the move down South, not to mention my 2-year old is always in need of attention.

That's why I have plans on buying my own Diamond, so I don't have to leave my own house. :)

As for that house, I'm currently working on that. ;)

I'm hoping to drop by Babineau's eventually.
