Did the TD make the right call??

IMO, A lot more questions needing answers before anyone can form an informative opinion on this ruling.

Diabetics may be back to normal sugar levels after 30 minutes, but that doesn't mean they are capable of normal tasks. If I may take a guess, very few pool players are doctors.

At this venue I would also guess that the parimedics were the only ones qualified to give an accurate opinion as to the medical condition of the player that was in a diabetic coma. Everyone else would just be guessing.

The player told me he has had these spells most of his life and felt good enough to play his well-earned shot at playing for the championship...And who knows better than the paramedics?...the person it has happened too.

Raw Deal

What is this world coming too! Disqualifying player because of health issues! Yet we're playing in smoke filled environment, alcohol, and drug abuse but we decide to disqualify a person for being diabetic.

tigereye,
Thanks for the followup info

I wish you would have included this in the original post.

The TD made a call, good or bad, he was probably influenced by the natural fear of not knowing what he was dealing with and wanted to err on the safe side.

Bad Call? Maybe, but I would have at the very least given the option of continuing, splitting or rescheduling, forfieting would have been a last resort.

The paramedics have testing devices to keep opinions out of the mix. The diabetic's judgment can always be impared after the shock of coma due to low blood sugar.

You tell me.

If you're gonna keel over, what better place than in the finals of a pool tournament!!

CueTable Help

His tombstone would read;

He died doing what he loved!!

Ray
(I hope I'm able to play till the end) ;)

As a diabetic myself, I think he made the wrong call, however I would probably take his car keys away from him.

I dont see the point of this thread, The person starting this was simply a spectator. So unless he actually knows any other facts its a pointless discussion. What if the guy actually forfeited? What if you were the opponent, would you want to play a guy who just had a bunch of EMT's come and help? Pretty extreme "shark" but always possible.
