Buddy
considered Luthor Lassiter as the best 9 ball player to have lived, but you have to remember one thing, Lassiter was not as battle tested as Buddy, especially for gambling. All tournaments aside, the top player in any game, was the one that was the best gamblier and player in the game, and that was Buddy.
I have heard that Buddy was considered in the top 5 players for over 21 years, and that is quite a feat. I can still see Buddy in all his glory when he walked into Burke's steakhouse here in Wichita with his long dark red hair down around his shoulders with crisp blue jeans, and that Kentucky Gentleman's short leather coat on. This was right before he turned pro, and was the best road player in the country.
He could run a ball up corner better than anyone I have seen in 50 years.
He was, simply, the best.
