Difference between mezz shafts? WD700, Hybrid Pro, Hybrid Alpha

I was in the market for one of these after having hit with it. However, after looking online, I'm more confused as ever. OB and predator break their shafts down into two distinct shafts with distinct characteristics. I'm pretty confused as to what Mezz is doing.

All three shafts run about 12.5-12.75. I have no idea what their tapers are, but WD700 has the WD700 taper, the Alpha has the Alpha taper, and the Pro II has the Pro2 taper (which I'm assuming doesn't even mean pro-taper anyway). Come the **** on Mezz! You've gotta be ****ing kidding me!

The only thing I do know is that WD700 is made similar to a traditional shaft, just hallowed out. The other two uses some sort of carbon reinforced core thing? A la cuetec/scorpion???

Anyway, clarifications appreciated!

ok i'll chime in.

WD700 comes at 12.5mm and is about as stiff as a normal shaft. it has a pretty long taper.

Hybrid alpha comes at 12.8mm and is very stiff. it has a short ferrule and a pretty long taper. you can really feel the carbon rod that helps stiffen it up. it's easier to power through the ball and kill the cb when you need to.

I'll measure the alpha for you in a min.

Hybrid pro 2- has a euro taper and comes at 12.5mm. IDK much about this one other than what i've said

Thanks for the information.

The Hybrid Alpha and WD700 has a taper more like Pro taper. the Alpha and Pro2 hit stiff, with the Alpha generating more deflection than the Pro2. but many regards the Alpha as the best Mezz shafts, WD700 is very highly rated, too.

If the Schon has a 5/16-14 pin, it will be compatible with United joint.

i can confirm that for you. years ago i used to own both at the same time. i put my united joint 314 on my schon. it went on nice and tight just like the shaft did on my mezz. i'm pretty sure the schon would have fit the mezz without that little half sphere on the ss joint. i'm like %80 sure that i screwed the schon shaft down till the bit on the schon shaft stopped it from screwing down all the way.

i had andy gilbert make me a shaft for my mezz once. i sent him a warped WD700 to match his shaft with their joint. he said he threw it away and just used his insert(standard 5/16-14 female). while the shaft played well enough the cue really never felt like it was how it was supposed to be.
