Difference in cues...help

I understand cues, the market, pricing, names etc.... What I don't understand is different types of cues. Like, What classifies a cue as a titlist? What is a titlist cue? Also, say you order a custom cue, for instance, a carmeli. But you order a blank, again for instance, a john Davis blank. Now Ariel makes you a cue. How is that now a carmeli cue if he used a blank? He didn't make the whole cue. how does that cue demand the same price as if Ariel made it fully himself? Ariel makes fabulous cues I just used him as an example.

A titlist was a one piece cue made by Brunswick from the 30's on. They also sold blank titlist cues. Many custom makers used these blanks (they were good) and made conversions to two piece cues early in their careers, giving the titlist cues big name recognition. I think the biggest thing about them is nostalgia, at this point.

As far as customs, the blank doesn't matter as long as it is good enough. The custom cue maker didn't make the wood either (the tree did), but it doesn't limit his abilities in any way... as long as the wood is good enough.

I was visiting with Steve Klein the other day, while he was working on a bunch of titlists. Some titlists were not good enough, just as some shaft wood wasn't good enough for him to use.
