What are the primary differences in a pocket billiard table and 3 cushion billiard table?

Obviously there are no pockets on the 3 cushion table, but what are the other major differences.

Rubber on the cusions and rubber profile?

Cloth - obviously much faster...i'm guessing 30-40% faster if the cloth is heated.

Size/weight of the balls

what about placement of the diamonds?
 
profile is a term used for the configuration of the rubber. See the attached documents as examples of different profiles. There are many different profiles

(P-37 is standard for billiards tables but also P-59 and P-79 are used; for pool tables, there are K-55, K-66, U-23, etc.).

The billiard table typically use extremely fast cloth : Simonis 300 Rapide or Gorina Grenito M . The heating of the slate makes the table play longer. Dry bedcloth and rail cloth tends to make the angles open up more ("play longer.")

Some of the speed of the table comes from extremely thick slate (commonly 60mm.) The thicker slate dampens the vibration better. When a ball is struck the slate starts to vibrate. This vibration slows down the cue ball.

Billiard balls are 2 3/8" in diameter. Pool balls are 2 1/4" in diameter. Therefore the billiard ball is heavier than a normal pool ball. The heavier ball is more difficult to draw and force follow. The larger ball permits more control on the amount of side spin imparted to the cue ball.
