I'll say it before someone else does. 1 ft. longer or 1 ft. shorter.lol
With all things being the same, do they play similar or are there differences that are built into the tables because of the different sizes that make them play different ?

I asked this question in someone else's thread and it got buried in the later pages.

Good question. I think the rail rubber is different between the 7' and 9' proams. Artemis on the 9' and not sure but of the brand on the 7'. I wonder if it is the same case with the 8' model. I'm sure the 8' plays just fine though. I have a 7' and love it. If I could have fit an 8' or 9' I would have.

I have played on both, and I really didn't see any difference other than the size. Assuming they are both in good shape, they play the same( at least the ones I played on),they play great!

Why does Diamond choose to not put Artemis rail rubber on all their tables? Do you think they find people who play on anything but 9' more or less amateurs and mostly wouldn't benefit from or notice the upgraded rubber?

Maybe one of the table mechanics might answer that one.............

To answer your question, the 8ft is a little easier to get cue ball position on as there's more room on the table for the balls to spread out on, just like a 9ft has more room than an 8ft. They both have the same cushions as Diamond only installs the Artemis cushions on the 9fts because it's not cost effective to install it on the 7 or 8ft's.

Would the 7' & 8' tables play better if equipped with Artemis cushions? Is that an option if ordering a table from Diamond? It would seem that cost at the manufacturers level for Artemis cushions would be in the $50 range at most which they could pass on for $100-150 to end user.

Other then the additional room for cue ball control, if you were shooting balls on the pro cut 7 or 8 would the pockets be as tough on both ?
Also Glen on your ridgeback rails for 7 ft valleys are the ends of the rails cut differently then the original rails to make the pockets tighter ? And what would you think of having the ridgeback rails made 3/16 or a 1/4 inch longer on each end to tighten up the pockets ?
I already have a 7 ft valley and another thing I'm thinking about doing is putting a 1/4 inch x 3ft maple shim on each rail, to increase the shelf. I was hoping that this would make the pockets tighter. What do you think ?

The slate shelf on the 8ft is deeper than on the 7fts, so the 8ftr's are a little tighter to play on. On your Valley, unless you do something with the slate shelf extending the rails is only making the opening of the pocket tighter, not harder because you can't rattle a ball in the pocket with no slate for the balls to sit on, the balls are either in, or out, no hangers, which is the difference between playing on something like a Diamond or Gold Crown. You could add the shim to the back side of the rails which would cut down the area of the playing surface a little, but don't expect it to change the pocket play much other than creating a smaller target for making the balls, it's not going to have much effect on the slate shelf. The pockets on coin-op tables are designed to suck balls in, not make the table play harder, and the slate pockets are cut very short to support that as well.

Is there any material that I could add to the slate to increase the shelf ? special cement, slice a piece off a brick, etc.
