Different Strokes

Pool is a beautiful game and is so very individual unlike say football. Most of us are just looking for ways to shoot just a little bit better. If the slip stroke works for you then for it. Is it optimal? That is not really a debate for any of us to say for sure as we are not scientist. I refuse to believe some of the great players of the past could not wipe the floor with the majority of the people who are posting in this thread just because they are using the slip stroke. Would you really put down 1k down on a match against Dallas West? Pick the game. I personally use the slip stroke and the stroke slip. When it is all working like it is supposed to it really is unparalleled. It feels easy and natural to me. My back stroke is never long enough. Even bowling I only go back halfway. But forcing it back isn’t accurate for me. Slip stroke solves this issue in pool. Nobody knows your game better than you. If you want to employ it then do it and prove the naysayers wrong to yourself. Not to them as they are not as concerned about your game as you. Just mho. Whatever you do, enjoy it.

Hmmm...

1) There is an Ask The Instructor place for this thread.

2) Max has a lot of help he offers, free and paid, for pool players. I consider him a friend. Smart people can learn pool from him while parsing his beliefs about the planet. Wise, kind people will also respect a friend's opportunity to come to understand a conspiracy theory better, and will be patient, instead of mocking.

3) IMHO, there is WAY too much emphasis on accelerating forward strokes and not enough on the soft touch kind of stroke I assume is being spoken of here . . .

Good responses. Regarding #1, I respect the instructors but I value feedback from the full community (including them) over feedback from just them. Unless it’s an aiming topic, just about 100% of my threads will be posted in the main forum.

Respectfully, Matt
(I don’t take myself too seriously. I hope you can return the favor.)
