Different weight/length of cue for different games?

Do you think different games favor different cue weights and lengths?

Would
14.1 and one pocket favor short and heavy cues
while
9ball would be best played with a tad lighter and longer cue?

Just curious, I guess.

just to indulge your question,,,,,,,,14.1 requires more precise positioning over shorter distances(usually the front half of the table). i personally feel more in control of a lighter cue,,,,and cue length should always be the same because it will affect your stance. that being said,,,,i think all the old timers played with heavy cues, and they played a ton of 14.1

conversely, since you move the cb quite a bit in 9ball, a heavier cue makes more sense..............and it'll level an errant stroke better

just indulging:):)

I think different table sizes do. To me, cue wieght matters when going between a 7 1/2 foot barbox to a 9 foot table.

This doesn't answer your question directly, but I would like to mention something most players would consider odd that I do: I like to practice with a lighter cue....by 1 1/2 to 2 ounces. You must stroke better to have any chance of hitting the ball straight with a light cue. IMHO it forces one to use more of the stroke than the weight of the cue. Then when you pick up a heavier cue (mine is 19.5 oz), your backstrokes stay on the grove better/easier and your follow throughs have less wrist twisting.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this?

yes,,,but try an open bridge too. that will also force you to straighten your stroke

Actually my cue is about 16.8oz. And I'm find with that weight. Though my previous one was 20oz. More weight might suit me, buut I wouldn't know really.

I think shorter bridge suits the short game.

Yes, a shorter bridge will help anybody's game IMO.
I went from a 11-12" bridge to around 8-9" and although it looks funny, it helps.

I've cycled through different bridge lengths for years :D .
If i'm playing bad, i'll shorten up the bridge, and things get better (over time) i find the bridge wondering farther and farther back, then game goes to hell, and bridge get's short again...

Poor Me.
