Dilema Part 2

I want to thank everyone for comments on my Dilema the past couple weeks.

I am proud to say that this week was a lot different at league.

I walked in and shook everyone's hands again, and I still didn't act like anything was bothering me.

They actually played me last night, and expected me to play well, which I did! LOL

Here is how it went.

On singles at 8 ball I got up and left the other guy with 5 balls on the table. So of course my team mates were like dang. "Where was that last week." I was like, I didn't get to shoot last week. The dude in the red shirt ran everything he shot. (This guy last week was an animal.)

Then on my second singles game I left the kid with 2 balls on the table, but I had to work my butt off to get to the 12 ball.

Then on my first doubles match the captian's husband was in a rut, and I know it takes two to loose on a doubles match, but we lost. (I tried, and that is all I could do.)

Then we had the same thing happen as last week. The whole night came down to the last doubles match. If we won we would win the night. If we lost we would loose the night.

I was just about to put my cue away cause last week they didn't choose me to play the last round (I still think that was a bad idea, but it ain't my team.)

They looked at the kid that played last week and asked if he could handle the pressure. (He said it is just a game and he would try. Honest answer, but not what they were looking for. Besides he cracked pretty good last week. Also he hasn't shot good all season that I have seen. He is too hard on himself.)

Anyway they looked at me and asked if I wanted to play. (Mind you I have my cue in my hand tearing it apart.) I looked at them and said hell yea I want to play. They asked if I could handle the pressure and I was like, what pressure? I got this, and this game is in the bag!

So my buddy broke and then the other team shot in stripes. I got up and ran everything but the 6 and the 8.

On my buddies turn he put the 6 in but had no chance except to break out the 8.

Well it didn't get broke out, but rather got put behind stuff.

When I got the shot they had played safe, and I was like dang. I looked at my buddy and told him I was going to play safe but he would get it back, and he would have to win.

Sure enough I played a good safe, and my buddy made the shot and we won last night.

Everyone on both teams asked if I meant to play that safe or if I was actually trying the 8. I told them that I told my partner exactly what I was doing and he could back it up that I was actually trying to play safe.

They were all like dang that was a great safe.

Needless to say I don't think that my team will hesitate to play me next week. LOL:cool:

Otherwise, good on you for stepping up and putting it together to win. Boosting ego and self confidence will do wonders to a pool game

Setting up for the 8 ball.

Here is what I was left with, and I was supposed to shoot at the eight.

Keep in mind that it is bar rules, there is no ball in hand. So no penalty for hitting the opponants object ball.

Ok my idea was to go long down the table 2 rails and try to pocket the 8 ball. If I was off at all it should hit the 10 ball and play a great safe behind the 10 and 9. Hopefully it would also open it up for my partner.

Here is what I wound up leaving them with! They could go 9-14 combo, then the 13 ball, then the 10, but they have to play great shape! LOL

They messed up the combo and left my team mate for the cut on the 8 in the corner, and the win!!!!!

Well ...

knowng your opponent(s) is half the battle, but where I play, you would have never got back to the table. I would have played a safe with the 8, tying up 1 or more of their balls.

I'm not saying this with the intention of being rude, but you sold out. Any player who doesn't run out from what you left them is not a good player. Combo the 14 in (which is a very easy shot the way you diagrammed it; maybe your diagram is off?), and then it's an easy 10-9-13-8. The only way to get in bad shape is to hit the combo too hard and leave the 9 awkward, or get straight in on the 13 and have no way to get shape on the 8. But any experienced player should have no problem with that.

the way the 10 was sitting you couldn't have got it passed the 8, but maybe the diagram is off just a hair. You would have to be on the other side of the 10 and go long down the table.

I didn't sell out? How did I sell out?

I knew the weakness of the other player coming up to shoot and I exploited it, how is that selling out? LOL

Based on the diagram, I thought the 10 would go past the 8. If it didn't go past, then you didn't exactly sell out, although it's not exactly a lock-up safe. However, in bar rules I'm not sure how strategy really works anyway, since a lock-up safety won't reward you with ball-in-hand. I guess I'll downgrade my "you sold out" to "you didn't exactly lock them up."

I guess no body liked my shot..............................LOL:rolleyes:
Hey, it's bar rules, do what you got to do and don't feel bad about it. Any league that would run on bar rules is just asking for this type of play to occur.

Andrew

Hey Andrew,

Thanks for the comments. In my Thursday league where we play BCA rules I would have never done this due to the ball in hand rule.

Also in this bar league the caliber of player lacks a little to be desired. So far I have only seen two people on other teams that can whoop me at any given time. So I knew if I played it that way we should get one more shot.

I didn't exactly want the 10 to move that far, but I hit it a little full, and a little hard and I just got lucky that it couldn't go past the 8.

However if they would have been much of a shooter then they would have gone 9-14 combo, then the 9, then 13, and been alright to run the 10 down the table. It didn't happen though!!! LOL

I will have to work on my wei drawings, this was my first attempt at it so I will try to make it more acurate the next time. Thanks for bearing with me guys.

Ok here is a good question. Remember these are bar rules, and it is your turn to shoot at the 8 ball. It has to go clean (no double kisses, call your banks, no hitting opponents balls, etc.) What would you all have done in this situation? I am just asking cause if there was a smarter shot I want to learn it.

Thanks guys!

i would of hit the nine straight on with some slight follow contacting the ten just a little for a better shot on my eightball, not to much this way he couldn't make the ten due to the nineball unless he was a great shot maker for the combo, me taking the risk of him not banking it in, or getting shape on the 13 to break out my eight.
