Dime vs Nickel tip

A miscue has much more to do with edge compression and chalk
Cue tips may seem as hard as rock but they do compress:

Tips don't miscue.
Players miscue. They come out of their shots.
A slight head lift too early will change your entire stoke.
The body follows the head.
So you don’t use chalk or shape your tip because it has nothing to do with the tip .. it’s all because of technique ?

Of course I chalk. It's part of my PSR.
I rough my tip up with Willard's shaper before play too. But I never blame my tip for my miscuing. I miscue, not my tip especially if I keep my tip in optimal shape and chalked.
The archer doesn't blame the arrow or his bow if he misses the target either.
I have heard a million excuses for poor play at the table and so have you. How can one improve if they take no responsibility for their mistakes?
It's my tip, its too hot, its too cold, the music is too loud, that guy moved, etc.

Did you know that as you move the tip from center, the spin to speed ratio linearly increases until about 40%, and then increases very little and flattens out between 40% and 55%? The last 10% before the miscue limit gives you roughly the same amount of spin to speed ratio.

It has to do with how torque, the center of prec., tip deformation and inelastic collisions play against each other.

For a perfectly elastic collision you can cue out to 73% assuming miscues don’t exist.

So it just so happens that by coincidence the miscue limit also corresponds around max spin anyway

Dr. Dave is the greatest resource to learn what is your trying to learn, visit his U-Tube Channel, and best part is it is FREE.

What are typical causes of the dreadful draw shot miscue. I swear I'm hitting it above the miscue limit but somehow I manage to hop that puppy.

Not delivering the cue tip to the spot where you think you are attempting to make contact with CB.

Had a student swore his cue could not draw. What he was doing was dropping his elbow just before the instant of contact and hitting center CB. I had no trouble drawing CB back 4 diamonds with his stick. We had to work on keeping the stick at the same angle of attack for the fore swing and follow through.

my pool game can be summarized in 2 words......I suck.

I was always an average banger, in stroke 25 years ago, downhill ever since due to age and failing eyesight....diabetic eye disease. I can still see well enough for everyday activities, but have lost lots of visual skills for pool, mainly long shots.

A 101-year-old here complains that he can't see, asks if the 4 ball is the 8 ball, has no pre-shot routine, and pockets balls practically standing up. He must be relying on muscle memory. He's slow in the last year but still pockets balls when he shouldn't. He might be a liar.

Cowboy Jimmy Moore at 85 could still beat me to death on my best pool playing day.

I know, because I played him in a little weekly torunament at Pro Billiards in ALB. He smooth stroked a couple bank shots, then wham, bam I was a Post Toasty.

I asked him what the most frustrating thing was about playing pool, Jimmy said, with a quite salty vocabulary getting beat by an inferior player.

Just watching the tip hit the ball can teach/correct a lot.
