Disable retaliatory negative reps

This is s simple concept that could go a long way toward enabling the group to assist in steering this forum.

One simple (very effective) thing that ebay has done recently is to disable retaliatory feedback. In the past, if you ran into a bad seller and you gave them bad feedback, you could expect retaliatory feedback. So here your are, small time honest netizen who has done nothing wrong except report dishonest activity, and your perfect record is tarnished. The fact is, due to volume, he can better afford to exchange fire with a buyer who has few bullets. The crooked mega seller has intimidated the next honest seller into lyiing and giving good feedback in a defensive move to protect his own valuable reputation. Reps to ebay for solving this dilemma.

The same exact thing occurs here, where the few loudmouth (thousands of posts) obnoxious nuisances spoil this forum for those who ernestly listen and learn and make every effort to NOT be part of the problem. It's more exacerbated here because the faster a poster spews rotten garbage into this fine forum, the less vulnerable he is to having the whistle blown on him by upstanding users.

I truly hope this subject receives proper attention.

I do like the new ebay setup even as a seller...for deadbeat buyers...it's so many strikes {3 I think} and it's bye bye time for them...the only good solution here is buyer beware...know who you are dealing with and check around if you're not sure about a seller...

I asked this question on the forums last week and while it's a little off subject could somebody tell me how to leave REP period. I'm right clicking on this and looking through this & that drop list and I can't find it!!.

Back on topic.. retaliating with bad rep is just like the Ebay example which I agree with 100%. Only thing is with all that is said and with all the behind the lines pms etc... how would determine & define if rep was a retaliation or legit?

Receiving a bad rep does nothing to you as a poster. On another forum I post on, we use the system to agree, disagree, and comment on posts so as not to clutter the actual thread. No one cares if it's red or green. To anyone complaining or raving about it, seeking internet validation is just sad. I suggest logging off and getting a life.

If you were talking about iTrader, I'd say go for it; disable retaliatory iTrader. But for rep, it doesn't matter. I more or less agree with what Marissa's said.

I look at the rep system as just being for fun, and to let someone know I liked their post. I like it when I notice that someone left me rep because that means they liked my post. That has value to me, but I don't see it as a status thing, or a race to get the most rep.

Sometimes the rep system is taken waaaaay too seriously, and that's fine if someone wants to do that; whatever floats your boat; but you're fooling yourself if you think you can look at the number of green boxes or lack thereof and determine much about someone's actual reputation.

By the way, did you know that emoticons work in the rep messages?

Anyway, that said, if you agree with my post, please leave Travis Trotter some rep. :thumbup:
