Dismantle Pool Table Help

Hi everyone,

I am trying to move my pool table to a different room in my house and I am having a hard time getting two of the slate pieces to come apart. The professional installer used bathroom silicone caulking to stick the pieces together. I am trying to keep the slate in the best possible condition and I don’t know how to get it apart. I have tried prying them apart from the wood at the bottom and also wedging in a screwdriver but that only lead to chipping the slate. I am looking into buying a caulk dissolver but i do not know if that will damage the slate. ANY help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

M

I see this at least once a month. What I do is create a fulcrum under the seam with a hammer handle or something similar on both ends of the seam and then apply pressure to one piece and have someone hold down the other or screw one end down and hope that they break apart.

P.S. Be careful and take your time applying pressure.

Bathroom caulk? I've never heard of that being used, but it doesn't sound like it should be that tough. Maybe the seams are super glued, or maybe they are pinned and that is making it harder. I'd probably start by scoring the seam on the top with a razor knife, and then putting a big flathead screwdriver in the seam on the edge (the wood backing if possible) and tapping it, moving back and forth from one side to the other. Keep in mind that if they are pinned, you need to get them all the way apart before lifting the end. Not to be condescending, but are you sure every possible slate screw has been removed? It's hard to see why they won't move in the current state.

Thanks for all your help. We ended up moving the crease to the edge of the table and just applying pressure to the other side until it came off.
