Maybe everybody's seen this already - Wei Chao posted it on cuetable awhile back, but that link to the English version has been down a long time. It's cool because then you could still assume that even little kids had a vague idea what billiards was.

Donald Duck learns the Diamond System. You know it's a cartoon because you don't have to make any adjustments at all.

SlickRick is going to be concerned that Donald learned the diamond system without learning the small games first :)

I was thinking the same thing. Also, since this film was probably made while Hoppe was still competing, it's sad to think that --while kids of that day could probably comprehend the information-- today's dumb-downed kids would probably stare gape-mouthed at that film in utter confusion.

I know! Damn that Donald! :D

Thanks for the link - that's a great video and it's nice to find it online from time to time.

It's fun to watch how even in the film the actual ball paths don't really line up with the theoretical lines if you look closely. (Compare 'opposite' vs 'through' points between the diagrams and the two example positions). Great example of the typical hand-waving done when demonstrating such systems, and that's just in the 'normal' area.

p.s. My favorite line has to be: "No, no, Donald, there's no guesswork to mathematics..."

Wow!

I rember seeing that clip years ago. I have been trying to rember that system for natural angles not ivolving the #5.
Thank you,
Nick :)
