Disrespect?

Poll::: If your playing a player who is 2 levels above you and they have their phone on their shoulder while shooting... Do you feel disrespected or offended? here's the scenario... Was not a money match, was league, we're both APA 7's, but he's an A+, and I'm a B player. I knew I would have a tough time taking it hill hill, etc... So it's not about win/loss... It's about respect and not slapping me in the face

I doubt he meant to disrespect you in any way, but I can see where you're coming from.
Maybe he didn't want to hold up things and make everyone wait for him to take a call?

And who was on the other line? If it was his wife, I would totally understand.

Several years ago, I was playing Dennis Hatch in a Joss event. Had him roughly 6-4 or 7-5. He was continuously on his cell phone while we played. Mike Zuglan came over and told Dennis to shut it off :( . Last time I shot at a rack. Wish he's have kept texting  !!!

I don't feel it disrespect but will feel annoying. There's a guy in a tournament will say hi and shake hand to everybody who come in the pool hall and have a little chat. I don't have too much patience waiting for him to shoot sometimes.

I would feel he disrespects my game (not me personally), and it would make me try harder to beat him,,,,

You could of called a foul. Someone was on the phone telling him how to shoot.

:slap:

I wouldn't mind I'm there to play my game not worried what he does long as he's playing by rules

I don't think that it would bother me as long as he wasn't taking longer than normal to shoot.

I have a buddy that I play with often that takes forever to shoot sometimes and it is extremely frustrating. I've mentioned it to him before and I think I may have hurt his feelings because we didn't play for a few weeks after I brought it up. Once we did play each other again, I noticed that he played at a quicker pace. Occasionally he does slip back into taking his sweet time and I will grab my phone and start playing games in between innings, but I don't think he even notices.

It's a tough one, I would almost prefer he shot like that, than made me wait several minutes while he was on the call. However, the proper thing to do is tell the person you'll call them back after the match.

It might be more disrespectful to take a two rail bank or other low percentage shot when there is a lock down safe available for him. That shows they don't think I can run out.

Sounds like a real douchebag, and it is a little disrespectful.
If you were just practicing, you're better off playing by yourself and practicing shots.

I don't think it's disrespectful ... I think it's under estimating your opponent if you in fact our good enough to run out. Teach him a lesson and run the hell out.

it would not bother me unless it was a higher level tournament such as playoffs etc.

you never know..it may be an important family matter.

once while playing i got a call from my son who lives in another state with his mother. i always glance to see who is calling and mostly do not answer depending on who it is.

in this case i assumed it was important because he seldom calls. barely 30 seconds into the call my opponent remarks...are you gonna talk or are you gonna shoot ? it struck a nerve " which seldom happens because i am one of the most chill people you will ever meet :grin-square:" and replied ...i am gonna do both.

i kept talking and started shooting one handed and ran the table. probably could not do that ever again if my life depended on it.

after i got off the phone i went over and apologized to my opponent and explained the call. he replied...i wish i would have waited for you to finish the call and shoot with both hands...i might have had a shot. we both laughed at that remark.

Where's the disrespect? If you were shooting and he was walking around the table talking on the phone, I'd say yes. However, his table, his turn, his option.

I wouldn't do it, I'd ask for a second and come back. But I see nothing wrong here.

No offense, but there are reasons he's that much better than you. If all it takes to get you rattled is to put a cell phone on my ear, your not very tough mentally. Pool is a game played between the ears. Losing on the table is usually just a side effect of having lost your edge mentally.

Toughen up mentally, and you will get better physically on the table.

Talking on the phone while shooting during a league match?

Wake up people!! The bar is being lowered and you're all accepting it!

That kind of nonsense should never be allowed. Show respect for the game, the league, yourself and your opponent or get the hell out. That's what I would say if I was the league director.
