Diveney cues - fake website, fake facebook, I got scammed.

Hello,

So I placed an order for my 1st custom cue 2 months ago. I wanted a Diveney. Wrote Diveney cues in google, tried to find a contact, found diveneyq.com. Interesting, no email posted, just a facebook link with a phone number. Seeing as I'm from Europe, and to keep things in writing, I'll send him a message on facebook.

As I have read quite a few stories online about scams, I check online for any bad reports, nothing shows up, there are multiple facebook accounts, some obviously fake. I double-check to make sure I use the link from the website. It's a facebook account with 8k followers, old at least a few years. So it has zero chances of being a scam, since it is literally years old with many reviews. Zero bad reports online anywhere, I checked.. We talk about the cue, prices, everything seems to be in line with price points of his cue I've been seeing sold elsewhere either second hand or via ''traders''. So the person I'm talking to is aware of price points at least to some extent.

Fast forward a month, since I'm getting a blank made elsewhere, I message him to give him info on when the blank will be getting shipped to him. I get told ok, that he will message me once he receives it. He asks if I want to make a payment now to basically seal the deal, I figure why not, and I prepay for the shaft (paypal friends and family of course.... the first time in over 500 paypal transactions :)), the rest I will pay once the cue is finished.

2 months later (now, currently), the Facebook account is gone. I immediately suspect what is going on. I go to the website, get the phone number, send a text, and get a reply that ''You have been hacked. Those people stole that page along with the current page about a month ago. They stoked that page 2 years ago. Sorry I didn't know that person you sent money to.''

I am writing this for any future Diveney customers, to re-read the story, and think carefully of what you will do.

By the way, there has since been a reddit post about the same issue (obviously after I had sent the money), but other than that, I see nothing being written online. So that's the main reason for me writing here. I find it insane that the only thing mentioning this being a scam is a random post on reddit, which by the time I saw it, I was already fucked, apparently.

Edit
Thanks to this thread, I was able to reach his son, who confirmed the phone number, and am in talks with Mr. Diveney about a compromise/solution.

You can buy facebook accounts, followers you can change names on facebook accounts too.
Yes, and you have the said fake account linked on the cuemaker's website, along with actual posts by him spanning the few years for which the account was active, right? Yeah no. Zero chances of it being fake. If it is, the website owner is to be held accountable. If the website has been stolen, it should be taken down at the very least, ideally potential customers made aware also. If you have a website up, I imagine it's not hard to take it down if you are the original admin.

Well since the beginning of time there have been bad people pulling scams, movie Paper moon, Film Flam Man, and the Sting are good examples. Facebook, the Internet make it easier to screw over people. Do your homework, go old school, use phone communication, and talk to people for experiences.

JBCase has been cloned, copied with People pretending to be JBCase, John has done Tube on how to spot frauds.

Obviously you know nothing about website mangement. Domains and where the sites are hosted are two diffirent things and are never within the same place.

Did you ever 'stoop' to using the phone? Dan and Pat don't do much social media crap. You are WAY better off calling them. There's a good chance they have no clue their FB/site has been compromised.

You buy online with credit cards or PayPal?
PayPal good and service is protected.
Credit card, you can file scam protection.

Pat and Dan are super people. If any electronic skullduggery has been or is taking place then they are obviously un-aware of it. I sent Dan a link to this discussion and hopefully hits me back with some info.

Scrolled thru some of Dan's posts and they are aware of it. Looks like their FB has been hacked multiple times and the site compromised as well. If you need to contact them it looks like Danny's FB is best way.

Thank you all for the help, I managed to reach Patrick, have it confirmed by Danny it is actually him, and we hopefully find a solution.

I also got scammed out of $400 on Facebook , scumbags tricked me, looked legit from Pat but was a fake account. Pat is aware of it but says nothing FB can do about it. Said always just call him.
