Dividing prize funds

This is in reference to the 10000k prize post.

The 10,000 for 1st and under 800 for 7th seem a bit misballanced to me. Are there some standards to cut up the prize money so if 1st is 100%, 2nd is 75% of that, 3rd is 60% of 1st and so on? Do most tournaments play it by ear? Do the majors have the same formula for that each year or among the tournaments? So if the US Open uses one forumla, does the BCA Open or something use the same?

All tournaments use their own payout schedule. The average is probably paying out one fourth (or just under) of the field, and with each place starting with 2nd being roughly 60% of the next highest place. Both can vary widely.

Nope.

As Poolplaya just said - each tourney has their own rules/judgement on how they divvy up the pot. The only real given or average scenario is that the payout blanket usually covers a 1/4 of the field. So, 32 field = pay last 8, 64 field = pay last 16 etc etc etc.

Also, don't forget to take into account whether the org's take an admin fee from the prize fund, money added, entry fees or all. This cuts down what they will have for the final payout to the blanket.
