Do It For The Game...

I read Bob Campbell's book...Do It For The Game...it reminded me of the old days back in New England...(a la WONDERBOYS if you don't mind my inability to not throw out a shameless plug)...anyway we were in slightly different areas but there were real similarities in the flavor of the location and of course the times.

And of course I don't have the time to ink a full book review but I sent a note to Bob to let him know that I enjoyed it...here is the message I sent him...

Bob

I really enjoyed your book. It's a nice gritty type throwback to the old days. I remember the Golden Q in Woburn but not much else in there.

Good character development for the main character and interesting story. I kept turning the pages that's for sure.

Good work.

Mike

I rememered the Silver Cue as the Golden Q but that's what happens when the cobwebs begin to set in...

Anyway it's a good read and you all should pick it up.

Mike,

Thanks for the kind words. Your memory isn't fading. There was a Golden Cue on the west side of town. There still is a Silver cue in downtown. They opened around 1965 and the room is still going. Boston Shorty used to play there along with most if not all of the regional A players. It was always a players room...and if I might say had a lot of the similarities of the room in my book.

I hope you finish Wonderboys II. I enjoyed your first book and it inspired me to write mine.

Thanks
Bob

MIKE!!! You were VERY kind to send me your book...Wonderboys... MONTHS ago. I put it in such a safe place THAT I COULDN'T FIND IT!

Just did some office house cleaning a few days ago and FOUND the unopened package you sent it in!

Haven't read it yet but will and THANKS AGAIN!
