Do old Meucci cues play better than the new Meucci’s?

I am looking to buy a Meucci Original Gambler cue but wondering how different they play and feel compared to a new Meucci.
Please reply with your thoughts.
Thank you

I haven't played with any built after around 2000 or so. But all the ones I hit and played with back in the 90's were solid. I do know, though, that Meucci went through a pretty rough spell not too long ago where their quality was questionable at best. They've allegedly got someone new at the helm to straighten the business out but I haven't really heard how that's working out.

I believe it's hit or miss with their new cues. So it's not so much the design, but with their ability to consistently control their quality. I have two newer cues and I got lucky...they both play well and they both stayed laser straight.

Their 80s cues were great but a lot of them did not stay straight so check the butt and the shaft together and apart.
The also had a bit of a centering issues with the shaft, so if you get a new shaft for it, it might not sit flush with the butt at the joint.
If everything is in goos condition then it should be a great cue.

If it's lasted this long, it's likely a good one. Back in the '80s there were two types of players, Meucci guys and McDermott guys. I was the later. I personally saw two Meucci cue forearms shatter, one on a nine ball break, the other on a really hard stroke shot. That said, I saw hundreds of guys with Meucci Originals and they all loved them. I still see a lot of them out there, usually in the hands of guys my age or older. Earl Strickland played with one for a long time. The Gambler and the Road Agent were the most desirable...and man, they had the LONGEST ferrules ever! :)

Nice one. My Meucci from the 80’s is long gone. I remember it hitting softer than the new pro shafts. But still similar with same joint etc…. It will play fine. You can get new pro or carbon pro shafts for it if you want.

This cue comes from a 40 year old private collection. Still rolls straight. I will eagerly await it’s arrival next week!

I’m going to be honest. I have never played with a new Meucci.

I have played with old Meucci and those cues are magical. Throw a red dot shaft on there and you can do things with the ball that will leave the bar patrons in awe. I use to tell the ladies to check their bras, it may have gone missing. That’s how great Meuccis are.
