Of course leaning over and the shirt touches a ball can, and will, be called by the opponent because the shooter can't see it.

Well yes, under strict rules, touching any ball, at any time, with anything other than the tip of your cue when shooting, is a foul. BIH being the exception, but you must place it with you hand and not your cue.

Not long ago ESPN was showing a 7-ball tournament I believe where they gave the players baggy sweaters with long sleeves and the announcers made several comments about players having to be careful not to let the sweater touch the ball. They were playing all ball fouls.

Of course most matches are played under conventional rules called cue ball foul only where incidental contact is not a foul. That is what I prefer.

Thanks for the Rule Education...

Jake, just because you had one sleazy player do this to you, it doesn't mean that anyone on this forum would do the same. Don't group the avid sportsmen and women on this forum with the sleazy players you will no doubt find in every pool room. However, this guy's actions do not give you permission to do the same thing.

If you are not part of the solution, you must be part of the problem.

Ha Ha Ha

Did you ever shark anyone Rich?

Did you ever rack em and see the front ball move a bit away and say, close enough.

Of course you would never move the bottom three balls away in an 8-ball rack would you? I actually had that tried in a simple $5 8-ball tournament.

There are all kinds out there so you have to be aware of what is going on or you will be trampled.

Actually, I place my values and standards pretty high and since you don't know me it is not nice to assume that I may be the scum of the earth.

Call the fouls on yourself!

I don't want a win unless it can be done with NO CHEATING! I agree that the pool gods will balance out the scales on those who cheat to win. Even if I am not there to see it, I firmly believe that the cheater will have it come back around somewhere down the road.

Jake, I can honestly answer "No" to your questions.

Also, to set the record straight, I never assumed that you were the "scum of the earth". However, per your statements, your standards may not be as high as others on this forum. I will repeat, "if you are not part of the solution, you must be part of the problem".

Yes i call fouls on myself like no-rail or double hit, or whatever it maybe, even when the person leaves the table and comes back.

I generally think its just good karma, and that its being Honest and gentleman like in this game.

Plus i have seen people argue over stupid shyt, like close hits or something and always seems to happen when nobody else is watching the hit.

Now on the lighter side,,,, depending on who i am playing if i happen to scratch or something, i will take the CB and put it in the impossible area on the table for a saftey, and of course i tend to get the craziest looks when the opponent comes back to the table, and of course i tend to laugh a bit, and hafta tell them its ball in hand before they shoot.

The other person tends to get a good laugh outa it too, since they go from shooting from a impossible spot to having BIH.

But i am always honest when it comes to stuff like this.

I call my own fouls except when it is too close to call it, then I don't. If I am playing with somebody that has a good attitude I also tell them which object ball to shoot (in 9-ball) when they are shooting at the wrong ball.

What if you don't know for sure?

It is very easy to call the obvious fouls, anyone can do that.

What about the ones that you don't know for SURE?

Did that ball really get to the rail or are you guessing? Or, were you watching the OB so intently that you didn't notice the cue ball hitting the rail?

Did you really touch the cue ball on your pre-stroking or did the pressure from your bridge hand make the cloth move enough to make the cue ball rock a little?

Did you really feel the double hit? Really? or are you guessing?

Do you know how the cue ball reacts to close hits all the time? enough to be able to call it ALL the time?

Do you calls a foul on your self if you are guessing?
The ovious ones are EASY.

Are you willing to give up the table on a GUESS?

If there is a little bitty possibility that you fouled, would you call it on your self?

As a shooter, you're not always the best judge. As a player you should know more about the rules of the game you play. If you don't know the rules HOW can you call a foul on yourself.

If you play all those 'integrity minded, honest, know all the rules and call them on their self' players and you don't know enough to call a foul on your self, you'll be labeled a CHEAT...

Be careful who you play, and know the rules, or you'll be on the short list.
