Do you ever play 14.1?

Sarah,

I know 14.1 tends to be popular in certain regions, especially New York. We have a league here in Cincy with 40 players.

Have you played much straight pool? If so, what is your high run? Seems like it would be a nice break from 9-ball every now and then.

Wally,

You are right about the popularity in certain regions. Here in Chicago no one plays. Everyone says it is pretty boring. I used to play a couple times a week with Tom Karabotsos, who is an accomplished straight pool player. He taught me alot because he has the gift of being able to talk and run hundreds.

I wish I could play the game more often. I practice by myself once a week or so but it isn't much fun. My high run is 58. I have run 50s a few times. You are right, it is a nice break from 9-ball. You are lucky to have a league in your area.

Back in the 60's and early 70's it was the game to play. There is a league here in VA. just outside Wash.D.C. i played in it before they changed my work schedule. I work between 12pm and 10:30 pm Mon. thru Thurs. Don't have time for any league now. I wish I could find a Friday night league somewhere. No way!! I quit playing between 1970 -97. My high run back then was 75. Since I returned to the game, 40. It is a great game except when playing a slow shooter.

Seems like back in the 60s and 70s pool was a little more exciting, maybe even more well-rounded. Not many people play straight pool anymore. You are lucky to have a league near you, even if you can't play in it. And you are right about the slow shooters. The game can take forever :)
