do you guys ever not post things here because............

I try to stay as anonymous as possible because I am in the pool table business. So I post and reply to subjects that often relate to pool tables.

But I also get into flaming and heated off topic and sometime on topic debates. So I don't want my personal opinion to represent my company. We do excellent work and I don't want to end up loosing a customer because they hate my political and/or other views.

On other websites where I don't get into arguments I am a little more open.

I just never saw the point in hiding who I am

I understand that some posters enjoy getting into flame wars or maybe just enjoy saying outrageous things behind the mask of anonymity. And if I really liked doing stuff that required hiding behind some ridiculous handle and avatar, I guess that's what I'd do!:D

My feelings ....

Well, My username is my Pool nickname given to me, with a 9 for 9 ball, and I sign my real name on every post, and I have where I live, and have stated so many times.

What I have learned from AZB and other Pool forums:
1) Different posters have different agendas for posting irregardless of what the forum is suppose to be about.
2) A person that IS HONEST WITH HIS/HERSELF is usually honest with others regarding usernames, registered vs non-registered, etc..
3) Everyone won't agree with you
4) Everyone will not believe you.
5) Sometimes seeing a picture of them will explain their sense of humor to you, a desperate move to understand them .... lol
6) And that offering your HONEST opinion is not an excuse for losing your
manners and common courtesy along the way.
7) Do not reveal all your vices online.
8) General information is okay, but too much detail infomation can make
you a target for some character deficient psycho personality who has nothing better to do than to put you 'down' usually from a camaflouged
position.
9) When the forums take away from you rather than add to you, it is
time to take a break from them.

One thing that is nice about the internet is the animosity that is granted to us.

By remaining anonymous we can truly give your honest opions. Me trying to remain anonymous allows me to critique pool table questions without revealing my company. Nor having say a rival company go nuts on me for talking good/bad about their products. So for me there is no need to feed people with real questions about pool tables crap. That way they can make a better discision. If not for this I would have to behave myself greatly. Which would not be as honest answers.

For example. Johnny Archer could be on here. Or Allison Fischer. Who knows. Now Johnny Archer is not going to talk bad about his sponsor Scorpian if you met him in the pool hall. Nor is Allison Fischer going to say anything bad about Cuetec.

But they can come on here with some crazy made up name and hide. Yet critique their company without outing themselves. Therefore you get an honest answer.

I'm not too concerned if someone recognizes me at a pool hall. You can go to my signature and see a "Myspace" account with pictures of me, my vehicle, my dog, my sticks, and any other information you can find about me. But for my companies good reputation I stay anonymous to the best of my ability.

Why is it dumb that I post my name and where I live? There's a lot more information than that about me in the phone book, and you don't even need a computer to find it there.

I don't say anything on here I wouldn't say "in real life", because this IS real life. It's not like this board is a simulation of human communication. Those are humans reading your posts and replying. It's no different than talking to someone face to face, except here, some choose to be anonymous. Words are words, ideas are ideas, and communication is communication, regardless of medium.

Also, speaking of bumping into people face to face, I was recognized in a Fairfax, VA pool hall by Flex from this board, who I guess identified me because he heard people calling me by my first name, and he knows from the board that I hang out at that pool hall. Funny thing is, before we made the AZB connection, I had bumped into him there several times before, and even played him once. And he lives in Chicago! Small world...

Actually, Andrew, I had more or less figured out who you were, but was unsure, so I asked some other fellows if your last name was Manning, as I had heard that "Andrew" wasn't there yet. They told me they thought your last name was Manning, and I knew what your first name was, so I approached you and asked. Thanks for "fessin' up" !! :D

Was a pleasure meeting you!

Best,

Flex

That said, I know someone who posted on another board with his real name. He even criticized others for posting anonymously, saying that posting with your real name would make people more likely to be civil.

That is- until he posted on a contraversial topic and began receiving threatening phone calls at work. He then began posting anonymously instead.

Words of wisdom...

Seth,

If I were you, I'd not post certain personal information about yourself, as there are some people who might use it against you.

JMHO.

Best,

Flex

I don't hide my identity but I don't just give my info out either. It is easier to discuss some topics if people don't know who you are.

I wouldn't post anything I wouldn't say. If anything I'm more inhibited in what I post because you can't lend additional meaning to what you post with facial expressions and hand gestures like you can in a normal conversation. It is so easy to be misinterpreted when you type a post so I try to be careful.

As far as posting with a real name, I find using a "nom de plume" more interesting, but many people here know who I am and anybody can know by asking.

Flex -

I dont think you saw my post a few after that one - all that information is bogus, my name is not even Seth - I was just being sarcastic.
