Do you use a vacuum?

I use the Simonis X-1 every day, and vacuum with a shop vac once a month or so. Nothing else needed.

I play for a couple hours every afternoon when I get home. I usually wet a microfiber rag and ring it out as much as I can when I start to play. By the time I'm done it feels almost dry. I wipe down the table and it amazes me how much chalk dust it picks up. I vacuum it once a week. I did this on my last table for the last 6 months I owned it and there was zero chalk dust on the slate when I tore it down. Just make sure the rag isn't wet, it can loosen up the cloth.

I use one just whenever the floor looks like it needs a good vacuuming....oh I get it now....yeah, for my table, I use the attachment for the suction thingy (No rotating brush). About once every 4 long sessions. Between these times I use a regular table brush.

A year ago someone at our club bought this huge vacuum cleaner that looks like it could suck the cloth off the table. Not quite, but I have a feeling that the brushes are damaging the cloth and that it is losing its grip over time.
Do you absolutely need a vac? How good are pool table cleaners like "chalk off"?

I am pretty sure you want to avoid any sort of rotating brush on the cloth.

Get a flat nozzle attachment for your vaccuums hose that is 4 or 6 inches wide, the use the skinny angle attachment under the rails.

How is going pool down under these days.
