do you use talcum powder?

I swear this forums driving me insane, you say that the #1 reason for using CF shaft is that it felt good without a glove? And I keep hearing the exact opposite, that with a CF you must and I mean must use a glove, also that you can’t use powder with a CF shaft.

Actually if you watch online, all pros who use CF shaft are also using gloves 100%, check that out.

So I’m curious to know which brand of CF you’re using that it’s too smooth to the skin? I know with Revo you must use a glove honestly most people say this.

REVO, and I must not wear a glove, although I'd love the benefits of those 2 synthetics combined if I did prefer to wear a glove. REVO without a glove feels different than wood, but with a glove all shafts feel the same. I think that is an overlooked benefit of gloves, but probably not to pros.

As RiverCity pointed out, if you have moist hands they become gummy faster due to the texture, and this is my opinion. I don't have extremely dry hands like you'd see from dermatitis, but they are about as dry as they come without my skin cracking, so I prefer the fine porous texture of REVO's synthetic shaft over smooth poly.

Before using a REVO, I would of never gave smooth poly finishes a second thought. I'm pretty sure there is detrimental effects in using a CF shaft without a glove, but that's how much I prefer the feeling. Of course since I have dry hands, just about anything works equally.

I pour talc on my glove when using the Preodair to keep it smooth but I'm careful to only spill it over the table cloth itself. No talc on my rails baby!

I used to think talc was totally harmless, just part of the pool kit. But there’s been a lot of noise lately about health risks tied to long-term use, especially with powders containing talcum. It’s not just hype either, there’s a Talcum Powder Lawsuit that’s been growing for years now, with claims linking it to serious health issues.

Might not change how we all play, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re using talc regularly, especially with bare hands.

Funny thing: for several years there were signs at the DCC -- no talc!

Guys would totally ignore that and all the ringside side tables always looked like everyone was doing copious amounts of blow, lol.

the jand j powder had asbestos in it. and people and places that were exposed to asbestos got cancer from it. and it was mostly from inhaling the particles. and it turned out smokers were more more likely to get cancer and much more likely to die from it.

no amount of asbestos is considered safe.

I pack as much talc on my hands as possible. Always have, always will.

When the J&J thing happened I went out and bought more powder than I’ll ever be able to use. I’m not running out.

Since I don’t play much anymore I suppose I’m gonna live forever by dodging the cancer I would have got with prolonged exposure to the dangerous Talc……../

I have the Joe Porper dispenser……just a wee bit of corn starch is dispensed that can be precisely applied on the web between your fingers. There is so little required to deal with any moisture that it doesn’t get deposited on the cloth. It is actually pretty cool and highly functional. Applying powder to your fingers creates a mess & you have to clean the cloth.
