I have a customer, who showed me a cue he says he bought from Doc Fry, in Maryland, about 12-15 yeard ago. It appears to be a 4 point full spliced Bacote & Maple cue, with a wrap. It has a piloted steel joint, plastic butt cap & something that looks like Ivorine ferrule. 1st of all is Doc Fry still alive, or was he at that time. Is there another "FRY or FREY" making cues, that might have made this cue?. There is a letter "f" on the butt cap...JER

I believe there is a frey that made cues also, as that is what I was told a cue I did some work on was made by. I sometimes get the 2 of them confused. Sorry I don't have much info other then that, possible someone else can fill you in with more details. Greg

i think u have a Bob Frey cue.. which at one time worked with Tim Scruggs... he is from Maryland i think... his cues are marked with a cursive "f" on the buttcap, but earlier cues might not be marked... Doc Fry would have retired then...pics would help..

You are absolutely correct my most knowledgeable friend. If by "retired" you mean passed away, once again, you are correct.

Not sure when he transitioned, but Doc Fry was from the Philadelphia area and is know for inspiring Gus Szamboti to build cues. Mr. Fry would place a new penny under the bumper signifying the year that particular cue was built.
