Does it get any better? Cue Veneer points.

Here is a picture of my cue's veneer points. Six veneers in four points. Wondering if another cue maker could do it better?? Here are more pictures of the whole cue. Everything white on the butt is ivory. This butt was built in ebony in 2010 by Ned Morris.

Those veneers look nice. But, I have a Scruggs, TNS, John Davis(forearm) and Perry Weston, where the seams at the tips of the points are much more precise. I have other cues made by prominent cue makers that have point tips similar to yours.
I am not a cuemaker, but I can imagine that it is very difficult to get the points to be perfect.
Who made your cue?

Hello, this is one of my favorite cues and I play with it, real careful. I just now posted more pictures of the whole cue. Maker is Ned Morris.

yes. craig peterson. basically worked out of his garage with basic equipment.
ask ed young or joel hercek. they will tell you how craig was set up. craig's points were not only perfect they all lined up, and there were NO line separations within the veneer points like i see in your img_6151 of the grey veneer. :) :) :)

depending on how old your man ned is, he might know who craig was

Beautiful cue. I see only 4 veneers in the points. Ordering 6 veneers, I suppose, would make the cue build more expensive.

Just thought I'd post these as a basis of comparison.
In my opinion, the "cleanest" looking are the John Davis, followed by the Weston, but I'm partial to the mitered look. If I was not, I would say the TNS points are. Style points could be taken off on the JD though, because the base of the black veneer is not sharp.
How's that for being anal?
Top to bottom
Scruggs - mitered
TNS - non-mitered
Coker - non-mitered
John Davis - mitered
Perry Weston - mitered

6 veneer Nitti (you can click on the image to zoom in):

Looks shoddy by comparison. :( If you look at the entire length of the blue veneer, it looks like it bled into the yellow veneer. The black veneer bled into the white veneer as well:

I held a PFD cue made from a John Davis blank in my hand, and the returns are shoddy. I wasn't sure if it was the cuemaker or the blank, but in the interim I've seen pictures of several cues made from John Davis blanks, and I'm no longer interested in cues made from John Davis blanks. John Davis didn't have the skills that the modern full splice cue makers posses.

I suspect that the bleeding happened when the cue was coated. Perhaps the blue veneer was not allowed to dry properly before. Again, not a cue maker, just supposing. Still a fine looking cue though.

That is a beautiful cue. Awesome veneers. Here is a picture of mine.

Of course, some cue maker could always do it better. There is always room for improvement because
perfection is seldom attained by anyone. As far as sharp points, every cue maker that has perfected
his craft can deliver that. There is nothing special about sharp points other than they look great, take
more time and CNC points alone look like the cue maker got lazy and took a short cut. I would not want
to own a cue that did not have sharp points because that is just my taste in cue designs. But remember
the points, veneers, inlays & overall design do not make the darn cue play one tiny bit better than another.
