Does Thorsten Hohman gamble?

GAMBLERS LIKE MONEY?
I have a friend who used to play strong pool, but was infamous for winning thousands on the felt and then losing it all and more in poker. He admits to a serious gambling addiction and says, with honesty I think, "I hate money, that's why I gamble". I used to gamble a bit but got tired of all the BS. Had a fella pull a knife once over a $2 bet, and another time an acquaintance in DC took me to bar on Rhode Island Avenue to play 9-ball, telling me as we walked in that, "My brother got shot here last month". I've been stiffed and robbed so many times I couldn't tell you. Gamblers and pool players are not synonymous. There's also a difference between gamblers and hustlers. There have been times when I had to gamble and win to buy food and gas, and a little heart was of great value, but gambling just to say I beat someone is no more than macho ego. I've never won more than $1000 in one day, but I've also never lost more than $300. Does that mean I'm not a real player, or just good at managing my money?

I do get it, those guys can never say they are better than an efren or a shane because they have only beat them in races to 11, and they have gotten beaten too. It's not until you play a big race, and ideally have one player quit, that you truly see who a better player is. That is the only way to tell. In essence, those players have never really beaten anybody... they have only shown us they can win in a race to 11.

The point you're missing is this: They are not just running the 11 to win a world title. They have to run to 11 back to back a dozen times against different opponents with varying paces.

In that format, you need to be able to adjust or go home. IMHO that requires a much higher level of concentration than running a single race to 100.

hmmmm

Great Point. But don't waste it on "chimichanga" because he makes even less sense on NPR threads !!

World Champion hardware and prestige that nobody can take away. Money comes and goes, but world champion status is forever, foreverrrr.......And is proof that you took on the best, and beat them all in that tournament.

Exactly! Ronnie Allen, one of the all-time great gamblers said that he thought tournaments were harder than gambling for the exact reasons you stated.
