Doing a Gold Crown II by yourself

Until recently, as far as Gold Crowns go, I’ve only ever recovered GC III’s and my personal GC IV.

I was recently hired to do a GC II at a local Senior Center. I had no idea the aprons were held in position by that strange clip/hinge system. I see why Brunswick abandoned that idea later. Really difficult to reassemble alone.

I wound up using bungee cords to hold the aprons in position while I bolted them together. It took me a while to figure that one out.

I’ve looked at video and seen people assembling the rail system upside down and flipping it over to mount onto the bed, like doing a Diamond table.

What do you guys do to recover one when you are without a helper and can’t assemble upside down and flip back onto the bed?

If alone I install rails and casting in position on the slate and get them all lined up straight and tightened. If the aprons still have the fiberglass skirts on them it the bracket from the skirt to the frame works great to keep it in position. If they've been removed- bungee, blue tape, even a small ratchet strap will work. I usually clean both the male portion of the of the extruded aluminum that's on the apron and the female portion on the rail with rag lightly soaked with WD40.

If table has been around a while sometimes it's more difficult to assemble upside down and have the long rails in line as the casting
/rail junction isn't as crisp as when new. Bolting directly to the slate ensures its on a flat plane and the rails are straight and square.
