Don't remember you just shot a break and run?

Do you ever shoot a break and run and don't realize you just shot a break and run?

I do this. I sometimes can't remember if it was a break and run or a table run - can't remember if my opponent ever shot or not.

And I have seen other players do this. They don't know they just shot a break and run until you tell them. You say; "Good break and run!" They say; "It was a break and run? Oh ya I guess it was..."

I do something similar from time to time. See, I break then think I'm going to run out only to realize that I didn't after I dog it.

Hell, I do it all the time. No I don't mean I break and run all the time. What I'm talking about is when my opponent starts talking about the previous game. Or if a person watching asks me something about the previous game while my opponent is shooting the next game. I can't remember shit! Unless it was something that would stand out like a real good (or real bad) shot. Three games ago? Forget it, I don't remember. Maybe if it was real special. But ask me how I got to that special spot in that game and I couldn't tell you.

Sometimes I'm surprised I remember how to shoot at all.

I'm fairly sure that this is a bigger problem in my game than I want to know.

Man I'm glad somebody is in the same boat as me.

I get those break and run "black outs" sometimes but as I have gotten better they don't always coincide with a break and run. They typically come when I am put racks together. But in this instance I find for me anyways the racks seem to go by quicker my memory is spotty rather than non existant.

This is probably because as your skill level increases you don't need to be in the zone to run out a rack. Later you will find that the black outs coincide with running 2 racks, 3 racks, 4 etc.

Sometimes I forget to mark the game which I broke and ran because it felt too much like practising by myself.

Funny you should mention this.

I just played a few sets on Tuesday night and shot the lights out. We played rack your own and I was racking a lot but I made a concious point NOT to keep track of how many racks in row I ran or the score.

I try not to keep track, when I do I get excited and my game goes to pieces.

I also had to force myself mentally not think of the money or playing one of the top players but just the game and the ball. I think thats how people be successfull in pool.

Nice thread..
