Will queue for cues
Silver Member
I’m thinking of going non-traditional for my next cue (it’ll be a few years) and have started doodling a bit. Let me know what you guys think.

The bottom has potential but the top overhanging inlay design should be abandoned.
It looks like you were just trying to be creative & settled on this. More work is needed.

The sharp peaks on the bottom are too tall and thick. Make them shorter, thinner and
sharper points. On the bottom of the design, there is a spacing underneath. Well, I’d
extend that spaced appropriately along the entire bottom. It could become a stitch if
it turns out the way I see it. Doesn’t have to be but definitely extend it across the entire
bottom. If you wanted, instead of a stitch, use a picket fencing shape in the same size.

Within the oval portion, I’d consider using a small star burst inlay. If you want a inlay
to extend from within the oval shape, I am not sure yet which would look the best. It
needs to be thin and proportional in size. Your state does not have any ivory ban so
I’d make the ovals ivory and scrimshaw the starburst or else use an ivory substitute.

My gut tells me you kind of forced this design and haven’t yet decided what’s missing.
I have no idea what your tastes are in cue designs so I’m only offering this as food for
thought. Avoid over designing it but still be creative & unique is the biggest challenge.

Thanks for the input Matt. Like I said, it’s just a doodle and not a fleshed our design.
