Okay, so we all love to talk about how we made chumps out of this player or that player. How we won this or that. But I want to hear stories about when you were punked. I'll go first:
The other day, I was practicing and a guy asked me to play. I didn't know who he was, but I knew he was a good player. One of the best in Norcal. I didn't know how good.
So we start playing even, 8-ball. I play my ass off. Breaking and running, playing safe, getting out when I had to etc...he's missing some shots...I figure I got him rattled. I miss some shots too. We play for 3 and a half hours and come out even. Dead even. I'm thinking, wow, I don't know who that guy is, but I'm playing pretty good. He didn't play as good as I thought. Then people start asking me how I did against him. We came out even. What was the spot? nothing. Did you know his usppa rating is over 130? huh? He played maybe 100 speed against me.
Well, I saw someone today who asked me how I did. I said we broke even. He said, yeah, ol (name deleted) plays pretty good lefty don't he? LOL. Immediately I knew what didn't add up. He was playing me off-handed. I played better than he expected maybe, but I didn't know he was normally a righty. They also told me that he plays 100 speed USPPA off-handed, which is right where he was playing against me. LOL.
At first I felt sheepish, but now I figure what goes around comes around. I used to play bar tourneys off-handed all the time. I used to play for drinks off-handed for weeks on end. Heck, I had a friend that our standing game was off-handed one-handed for 3 months.
LOL - Maybe I'm a chump after all
