Double angle cutter: carbide?

I am going to buy a cutter. I believe since diameter is relative to effective speed, that 2.25 is the best size(I can always slow down my mill), but am wondering if the carbide is worth the EXTRA price?

I prefer carbide for just about all of my wood work though HSS has it's place in my shop also. I don't see a down-side.
You'll have to sharpen the carbide about 1/5 as often as HSS, so do the math. What you save up-front w/HSS, you'll spend over it's life in sharpening. Conversely, spend the money up-front for the carbide and you'll be saving in the long-run.
Maybe more than the cutter itself depending on what your sharpening costs.

Thank you sir. Do you know of a quality cutter for less than three bills. I've looked..

I should add that I looked quite a bit today at HSS cutters and spoke with Bob at moon. He said he is two weeks out.

More along the lines of these.

The 3/4 inch shank is notably less than 7/8 and roughly twice the grizzly...

I used the one that KJ described for 6 or 8 years with little problems. I went to this one a year or so ago and it definitely cuts much truer and with much less vibration.

I don't know how long before it will need re-sharpening but at present, after doing approximately 24 forearms, I have to be careful when picking up as it will cut you. I'll never look back.

I have seen, on this forum in fact, problems with that supplier/bit.

I read that also but the one that I have is dead nuts perfect both on the angle and the cutting ability. Who knows? Maybe I'm just lucky but I wouldn't sell the one that I have and go back to the shaper cutter that I had for a 150.00. Just letting you know my experience with those two tools.

Dick

I appreciate your input Dick. I'm just trying, for once it seems, to get the RIGHT tool first.
