Dream Poolhall

If I ever have alot of money later in life I would like to open up my dream poolhall as something on the side to my career. Heres how it would be:

-It would be a huge poolhall, with 30-40 9 foot Diamonds and Gold Crowns, 1 12x6 snooker table, one 5x10 snooker table, one 5x10 billiards table.
-A small separate area with 2-4 barboxes
-A separate room called the green room with 5-10 top notch 9 foot tables for serious players. When the poolhall gets busy the action players have a place to play without distractions.
-Every table in the green room is spaced far away enough from the other tables, so much that you can shoot a shot on the rail and not worry about being in anyone elses way.
-Alot of TVs with sports in the main area, with a huge one in the bar area. No TV's in the green room, so there will be no distractions.
-A nice dark environment but with many light fixtures of different colors on the ceiling, and stained glass windows to give the room a nice tone.
-A dress code enforced, you can wear anything you want as long as you are not dressed like a bum. No sandals and tank tops.
-A bar with a huge selection of alcoholic beverages, in between the green room and main area. Many tables and chairs set up with a view of whole poolroom, including a nice view of the green room.
-21 and over, with a very large bouncer who takes no bullshit.
-Table rates would be average, and with deals available for serious players, like paying a certain amount of $ per month and getting unlimited hours of practice by yourself.
-Weekly tournaments held in the green room, leagues for the bangers played in the main area.
-A small room with a trained massage therapist, the therapist gets 100% commission, I just hire him/her to accomodate the players.
-An area with comfortable padded seats or bleachers in the green room for those who want to sweat the action.
-A house pro who plays jam up, and gives lessons recieving 100% commission.
-Good quality food served

Thats all I can think of now. If you were to own your own dream poolroom, what would it be like?

Ok as kewl as that room sounds, it would be kinda expensive to run, expecially with 30-40 9ft diamonds and GC tables, that is alot of room to cover.

Anyways, Mine would kinda go like this.

It would have 12 9ft Diamond tables, and 12 7ft valley's only because they would be for the ball bangers. 2 snooker tables 6x 12 European style tables, and 2 Billiards tables.

There would be a elevated eating/watching section for the railbirds, and a nice kitchen area that serves normal restaurant food, a decent bar, pro-shop, video game area, and plenty of comfy chairs.

If possible would have a two story building with pool tables on both floors. with a Open section on the second floor so people could watch down on the first floor.

As for table rates, it always depends on cost to run the building, but i would try to Max the hourly rate at 3 or 4$ per person, and have discounts for members, specials too, like ladies nite, or a flat rate, like 10$ to shoot from noon to 5pm, or something like that. And discounts for Pro-players too.

Also having a couple coin-op bar boxes would be kewl too, like 25cent or 50cent games. Also weekly tournaments too.

Ideal poolroom

Food needs to be available that is HEALTHY not just the standard you get now.
I'd also like a top of the line training/teaching room with video, tv, plenty of space and quite, smart board or white board for diagrams and probably a few more things I could think of given time.

If I were to open my own pool hall here in scotland it would be on two levels with 26 olhausen tables 13 on each floor, there would be a seperate bar area where food and drink would be available another which would be section off with sound proof glass for the games machines and 2 other tables for the ball bangers as the tables on each floor would be for serious and pro players, also I would run special rates such as free 9 ball once a week for members wish to learn 9 ball from our house pro and finally a pro shop with everything the pool player needs cues, gloves, chalk, etc. (plus a mean looking bouncer who doesn't take any crap or lets bums in.)

dream pool hall would not include any barboxes. Maybe 6 good billiard tables. 2 good snooker tables. Bunch of good pool tables. I'd really like to find a couple old brunswick 5X10 pool tables. My dream pool hall would not make money, but would be a lot of fun.

This is a dream, right?

My room will have a practice room with a door that can be locked from the inside and NO windows. It houses a perfect table that has been, and always will be, maintained in tiptop shape so that beginners can learn the true reactions of the rails/cloth, etc. It has a private restroom and a fully stocked fridge so there is no excuse to come out. It's rented by the hour (reasonable rates, as this is, afterall, a dream). It's soundproof and has a sound system that can be used or not used, depending on the person's preference. Mirrors on all four walls.

Ahhhh... I can dream, can't I? :D

Personally I think making MONEY in a Business, that is a Pool Hall is a tough nut to crack.

As you need first a Good Prime Location, Large amount of Square Footage, and that all so far EQUALS Money, Money, and More Money.

New Businesses have a Very High First Year Failure Rate. I say to anyone with the Idea of open a Pool Hall, FIRST Hire a Consultant with one heck of a lot of knowledge about the pool Industry, and your proposed Area you are think of opening in. ;)

ok...if you have a room that can be locked on the inside and no windows then you definitely need mirrors on the ceiling too :D

I would like to have
12-16 Gabriels, Brunswick or Diamond tables- 9 footers not overly tight
10 7 foot Diamond or Gabriels Barboxes in a seperate room.
Hopefully full of league players and for tourneys
2-3 other barboxes for quarter up and open games
Nice spacing around tables with seating for all of them. A few tables I would like to have more seating around for groups of bangers looking to eat, drink
and knock balls around. That would seperate them players some as well.

Good food and drinks along with reasonable prices.
a seperate seating area a little away from the tables for eating or just sitting.
Alot of times people leave rooms to go eat due to lack of decent seating. Females want to be comfortable and might not want to hang by the pool tables on bar stools all night. Guys want to look at girls.

Above decent bathrooms. Nothing worse than going to an outhouse inside a
decent poolroom. If you want people to spend 5-7 hours there playing pool and having fun then you need different things and a nice restroom is one.

Other things like megatouch machines or perhaps even a computer or two to rent would be nice. Girlfriends and wives that dont play would use them and would hopefully help in getting their man to the room more often.

A seperate and long bar area would be great. Alot of people just want to sit and drink. Need plenty of spaces though. I hate bars with about 6 stools.
Tough to get a seat and the regulars get mad when you do.

NICE LOOKING BARTENDERS and WAIT STAFF. Security in plain view especially at the start. Set the "no trouble" here attitude and it
will carry along over time.

the tough thing is to have decent usage of the square footage during the regular business times yet keep room for the railbirds and for tournament
viewing. Every sqft needs to be producing and that takes up alot of open space. I would hope to have a group of tables to take out of move for a
big tournament weekend to provide more viewing.
Rates would be as high as I could get away with without losing any business.
Specials for regulars, league guys and road players.

No matter howmuch space u have between the tables ,u will find a guy from the next stable standing even when he is not shooting.U will be disturbing that guy.

Farmer that won the lottery

Guys -

I would love to go to any of the above, but it reminds me of the old joke about the farmer who won the lottery.

The reporter asked the farmer what he was going to do with all the money, after winning the lottery. The farmer thought for a moment and then said, " I think I will farm until it's all gone!"

I think be setup in Chattanooga, Tennessee pool room is the best setup I have seen. I would copy it.

Regards
Ken

Sometimes I do the Lottery Dream. If I won really big, I would have a private room and people could come only if invited. I'd have a 6X12 snooker table, a top-of-the-line billiard table and at least 2 9' Diamonds. I'd have all the goodies in there such as a well-stocked refrigerator, fully functional kitchen, real big screen TV with all the right gadgets and cable hookup.

This is the Lottery Dream so I'd also like to have very comfortable seating around the tables and I'd invite action over. I'd set up a $10,000 match between some of the top pros and invite my friends to come over and sweat the action. Cater the whole thing and just have a great time.

Hard Time Bellflower? The only thing they have in common are the bleachers, the bouncer, the house pro who plays jam up and a separate area with better equipment.

Wow most of those sound like the pool hall I frequent. About 40 9 foot Brunswick tables, a large alcohol selection, a great kitchen with a lot of food, lots of good looking servers, a separate area for the good players, and a few scattered bar boxes and arcade machines. Oh, and several TV's with sports on them. Guess I'm lucky :)
