Dress Code!

I would prefer a basic dress code. It helps thwart problems before they start, and keeps a clean image in general.

I like Coco's idea.......keep it simple yet classy. Whats wrong with a nice polo shirt, a nice pair of jeans or slaks, and a deacent pair of tennis shoes? I see people all the time carrying 1,000 dollar cues and dressing like the shop exclusively in the dumpster. Another note to go along with that is personal hygeine. Who wants to play against some person who smells like they havent had a shower in a week?

From it's beginnings billiards has been a GENTLEMEN'S sport, and as far as i'm concerned it needs to get back to those roots. Dress code is one way to give the impression that we are trying to clean up the sport.

with the women's regional events, they are stepping stones to the professional tour - if you want to be a professional, you should represent yourself as such. in a professional office career, you have to dress accordingly, why should a sport be any different. i also agree with the others that the image of the sport is tarnished, so anything will help or so i hope.

And I don't care what the amount of monies added is, I want the room owner to know that the tour takes this sport seriously and not only behaves in a professional manner, but also dresses like a professional.

What's the reason for dress codes in some pool tournaments? I dont think that it has contributed to the rise or fall of this sport. I'm just looking for some opinions on this matter.

Been to any nascar events lately? It's pretty close to redneck hell, and i like nascar. While they succeed even with this problem, they have millions and multiple sponsors to overcome it. The perception is still that it's a hayseed sport because of the crowds regardless of how they spin it. Our sport needs to be smarter and better in order to attract those sponsors. Tank tops, backwards hats, and over size shorts hanging off your ass doesn't equal success, it scares away sponsors, and creates a thug mentality. Until we realize we need to grow up as a sport, we'll stay in the alley instead of on main street where we once were not too long ago. By the way, they wore tuxes back then, and they were on the front page. Ok, my fingers hurt so i'll stop now.

NASCAR make their Driver, and Pit Personal Dress a certain way, and act a certain way on and off the track.

Pro Spost Team for the most Pat Travel in Suit, or Sport Costs, and Slacks, and Tie when on the road.

I played a match th other night and this guy from the next table had the WORST B.O. I have smelled in decades. Wow. I actually held my breath when he was on my side of the table. :oink: :ignore:

I'm talking about the whole scene, Coco. Walk into a pro tourney and you won't find beer stained shirts and cutoffs, but you will in a local bar. Lower level races, drivers, crew ,etc. wear whatever the hell they want. Top level nascar has multi-million dollar sponsors that dress everyone all the way down to the driver's dogs. I was also thinking of the fan base. My long winded point is driving towards getting those sponsors, and it starts from the bottom. We can't afford to look like chumps, we don't have a large non-playing fan base, and we can do better. As for the way the drivers act, see kyle busch and tony stewart, not too many orders being followed there.

Requiring a dress code is OK if you want to portray a professional aire to your event (inc the use of publicity photo's of players after that etc).

The one thing that constantly amazes me is when TD's set a dress code that can be somewhat ambiguous and then get into little squabbles dealing with inconsistences, like:

- Black Shoes.
Some will allow black sneakers but then say that the coloured swoosh is too bright so it's all of a sudden deemed not to be black.

- Collared Shirts.
They would say all players must wear shirts with collars, but then rule against a player wearing a soccer shirt which has a collar.

- No Hats.
TD's would will get into debates about religious items (turban's etc) are then just asking for trouble.

- Black Trousers.
Some will allow black jeans some won't, some will allow corduroy (Fashion ALERT) some won't.

Some TD's make a rod for their own back when they state a dress code without having a vision of what they want to communicate to the players what the overall "look" should be. Then you have some players who will just try and bend the rules for no real reason than just to draw attention to themselves wearing items that others aren't; to show off that they can do it.

My personal opinion is that a _sensible_ dress code of smart but casual wear for a tournament makes for a good look and a good feel around the place. It helps to make events that "off-industry" sponsors & affiliates won't be put off by.

For a standard low key house competition or club event, I say codes should be waived. At the end of the day, the idea is to entice people into the venue and generate return custom - not to be picky, overly officious / power mad and narc folks.

Hey Ste,
As you know the dress code for the Euro tour and Europe in general is more stringent than in the US anyway but what I have a problem with is,
if I have to wear a polo shirt with a collar or dress shirt why does it have to be tucked inside the belt.
Some of us( me included) don't have those model figures of 30 years ago! Those days are long gone, Nothing worse than to tuck in my shirt and let my sagging beer belly be the topic of conversation for someone else's amusement. LOL
I don't know who is bigger, me or Gre but personally, I don't think either one of us should be tucking in our polo shirt.
You know who's religious turban or what ever you what to call it is in question, Coming from LA originally, it still looks like a do rag to me.
If he can wear a do rag to hide or cover his hair, I can wear a collared shirt to hid or cover my fat a$$ BELLY!!

ROFL

I know what you mean there buddy.
Without defending them, they were enforcing that line when they had Kozoom & JP around each tour stop producing content for TV. Now that has ceased - they are just continuing a set rule.

it would be a tough call on who is the "larger" gentleman, you or Gre. I'm not signing up to measure you guys up to find out & I can't imagine you EVER being thinner, 30 years ago or 50 ! Do you have photo's to prove you were ???

Did you ever order those 8n9 shirts in your size?
