Dress for pool success.......footwear?

I did some searching and found several threads with suggestions for comfortable pool footwear. I'd like to narrow that down a bit for something that I'm looking for........

I need a nice, classy, dress-type shoe for extended sessions, whether it be tournament or action. Anything from a full-blown Poindexter dress thing to something semi-casual (but erring on the formal side). Obviously I want something comfortable, but comfort is a very personal thing, of course.

Now, I'm a simple guy. Boots, jeans, t-shirt. I very seldom even wear a collared shirt. But, a trip to Tunica opened my eyes about some things. I attended the Southern Classic in July and had the best time of my life. It was my first "real" pool event and will now become my vacation destination of choice every year.

I thought enough of the event to take some nice clothes with me. Things I normally wouldn't wear in my local area. Especially not to play pool in. But, I ASSuMEd that the Open event would have some sort of dress code (it did), but also figured that they might be a bit relaxed on it (....and it was. They eventually allowed players to wear shorts).

Now, I watch pool on TV every single chance I get. I watch Accu-stats videos, Youtube matches, etc. etc. So, I've seen plenty of pro's play, but I gotta say, it was a bit intimidating to see some of the heavy hitters dressed very nicely at the event. Slacks, dress shoes, nice belt, Polo-type shirts.....even a few vests (I'm lookin' at you, Stevie Moore  ). It was interesting to see the sponsorship patches on some of the shirts. Seems things are oh-so-slightly heading the direction of NASCAR with that, but hey, it's money and the sport desperately needs it.

Anywho, I decided to dress the part for my 9-ball Open match. I drew a pretty tough amateur and probably played some of the very best pool of my life, only to lose 7-5. He was the kind of player who would have crushed me under his boot back home in the "real world". But this time, the guy was sweating when it was over and he knew he'd been in a battle. And I'll be damned if I didn't FEEL different when I played that day. Here I was in an Open tournament, surrounded by some of the best players in the world, shooting on amazing Diamond 9-footers.....and dressed like I belonged there. There was even a modest little crowd that had gathered to watch us play.

It all felt good except for one thing.........I had on my old cowboy boots. Lol. It's ALL I ever wear really. That was the only thing that made me feel out of place. So, I promised myself that the next time I went to an event, I'd have something nicer.

So, any of you guys feel like it boosts your confidence to go well-dressed to a nice event and play on nice equipment? It's probably a momentary thing, but I could honestly get used to that. It was nice. I know at one local tournament a while back, I was one of only a couple of people NOT wearing overalls. So, for me, Tunica felt like hitting the big time.

Oh yea, as for the 9-ball Open, I went 2 and out. But, for the first time in my pool "career", I felt like a real player. I even had a player approach me later on to ask if I was sponsored by Seybert's, as I was wearing one of their pull-over Polo's.

Again, any suggestions for something nice in regards to footwear?

Anyone have a similar experience to mine?

I am in sales and on my feet 8-10 hrs a day. I like to wear Ecco, Merrell or Clark's shoes. I am sure they have a style like you want.

I've been wearing these shoes for several months now. They're very comfortable, yet quite stylish. Just the thing for Saturday night One Pocket at the old pool hall.

Back in the 1980's tennis shoes were available with 8 balls on them and 9 balls on others. They were called pool shoes. Wish I still had them! Had a pair of each.

They might of been advertised in the old Billiard Tavern News paper. It's been so long.

Try Clarks Unstructured shoes, they feel custom made at 1/3 or less of the cost. http://www.clarksusa.com/eng/produc...m_term=85012&gclid=CKKblt_3vbICFQGDnQodZhIA6w < this is the pair I got and I'm waiting for my other shoes to go bad so I can get more.

I wear mine at work for 8 hours, then head to tournaments right from work, comfortable all day.

If you like cowboy boots, these may fit nicely http://www.clarksusa.com/eng/product/un_furl/85026

:frown:

Clarks USA but they are made in China.

You feel good in Cowboy boots?
Get a nice pair of tony Lamas dress boots, something classy like snake, but not too flashy. Pair them with a nice pair of western cut slacks and you are good to go. You could also do a subtle western shirt if that works for you, but not really needed.

Everybody loves a cowboy:D

As far as boots go, some nice ropers with a high end insole added can work. I had to to toy with the insoles to find something comfortable. When I shoot rodeos, I have to be in dress code and will spend long hours on my feet shooting.

Plus one for Merrels, but I also reccomend Keens, Asolos, and others:
I like a nice trail runner. They are light, comfortable and grip well when I lean over the table. It's not hard to find a nice trail runner or trail shoe in a semi-formal leather. Check out Sierra Trading Post for deals (and for deal on boots, too).

Those Clark's look pretty good. They're the early front runners.

I'd still like to see something a smidge more formal, just to see what else is out there.

Got to go with Cole Hann's with Nike Air technology. You can get them in a really formal classy styl or casual. Great for work and playing all day!

Well, If I was you, I will buy these :

BTW, they are italian, leather, sports shoes...

I prefer the one above because it will pair with a Cocobolo or Gonzalo Alves custom...

Can't go wrong with a pair of basic black Justin ropers. Once they're broke in, they'll feel like a comfortable pair of gloves on your feet. Add some gel supports for lengthy sessions on the feet.

Just remember that you'll likely have to go a size smaller as Justin's instep also allows for women (who have a higher instep) to also fit in the same boots as men would wear.

For shoes that look classy and are just flat out comfortable you can't beat a pair of Kenneth Cole Reaction's with a rubber bottom. Hands down the most comfortable dress shoe I own. Here's the ones I have, I like a square toe so they work for me, plus they're non-slip with the rubber bottom.

These are classy enough that I wore them to my brothers wedding as his best man and comfortable enough that after being on my feet literally all day I felt like I was in sneakers.

Me 2 4 Eccos

You may pay a bit more but I've yet to wear anything as comfortable as Ecco.

Most comfortable shoe with suport for pool I have tried. My wife likes the way they look. She is a lot more style concious then I am so they must look ok.

Sketchers and Merrells are both very comfortable, and have models that are somewhat dressier than just sneakers...that's what I shoot in. I love Bostonians for dress shoes (if they fit, they're VERY comfortable), but if you go with a dress shoe make sure you have rubber soles...otherwise you'll slip on the carpeting when leaning over the table.
