Dress for pool success.......footwear?

comfort dress shoes

I am sorry to hear poolguy4u that you are out of work. Shoes are labor intensive and thus suppliers chase a world labor market. The shoes still made in the USA are mostly men's, however, people doe not really want to work in shoe factories. In the 70's, every time a new manufacturer or supplier, like for auto parts etc came around, we lost our best factory workers in AR, TN, MS, MO, IL, MI. Same happened in New England. Individual shoe boxes do not have to be marked for country of origin, shoes should be. Many brands hide the country of origin under the tongue of deep inside where you can not find it.

Mephisto and Ecco are great comfort shoes and I forget about them as I am old. So while to me they are not my taste, they are for many men and women. They are excellent for comfort and support.

I said Rockport because they have many classic dressy uppers, with light weight foamy soles, and offer very good support.

The three brands I have mentioned are consistent. Cole Haan is inconsistent. I no longer buy them. Clark's are ok, not my taste and no where near the quality of Ecco or Mephisto. I bought two pair of classic desert boots from Nordstrom on line and returned them as they huet my foot so bad! These were made in Vietnam because that is the source of the plantation crepe.

Finally, on Munro, they may have stopped men's, I am not sure. They still do women's. Great products, made in AK, right outside Hot Springs.

Depending on your taste, you will not go wrong with the top three I named.

Good luck

I feel a good shoe is worth the cost of investment. It amazes me that folks will spend hundreds of dollars on a jacket or coat and then overlook what's on their feet.
I like what Mephisto does, but acknowledge it doesn't work for everyone. Some of the GeoX shoes are decent. If you prefer a boot-style, you might look at Blundstone (Australia). My pair is 5 years + old, and they still look and feel great.

Very good info from your posts, thanks!

It's funny but this thread is making me look into buying another pair of shoes, more so than the actual pool equipmet threads make me look into getting a cue or a tip LOL :D

Most shoes seem to go towards the euro look with buckles, shiny, square or long toe these days which is not my style. And the others are so-so for comfort, which is why I really like the Carks Unstructured line, they are very comfy, my pair has lasted very well, and have more of a conservative look to them.
