When I learned that the Planet-Pool Tour was starting back up this year under new management, I was excited. I remember the glory days of the tour (back around 2000-2001) when it drew 70-80 players easily and the folks running the tour did an unbeliveable job. Brackets were updated online, the website was updated almost daily with player rankings and results, information about upcoming events were plastered everywhere...it was awesome to be a part of.

However, this is not the case now. The folks now running the tour don't seem to invest a lot of energy or add any excitment about the events. The only results posted are pictures of the two finalists from each tournament that appear about a week after the events...no rankings, no brackets, no scores, not really much of anything. With today's technology, additing features like live scoring, live streaming, updated player points list, etc. would be simple, inexpensive, and add a lot of excitment about the events.

A pool tour is just like a business, if management doesn't seem to care, neither will the players, sponsors, and venues. I'm not trying to bash anyone...I just wanted to point out some early flaws that could cause the tour to fail again.

The new stuff ain't like the old stuff, and everybody has their preference.

Prinszlew!

I remember onetime at first break they had 108 players with only 11 tables and got it finished in good time. And one time they had 117 players at orange ball. Man I sure wish we could have the old events still going.
And sometimes the payouts were great! 2k for first 1200 for second on n on, sometimes more than that. And Even if there was a bad turnout the payouts still hit 1k for first.
And when it was the tiger tour they hosted the US Warm up event. All kinds of Champs
souqet, parica, strickland, Varner, Hopkins, bustamante, neils, archer, etc etc

I went today and donated. Did my usual 2 and out trick lol

They had about 30-40 people I think, I didnt hear the total. The usual heavy hitters were there Wilkie, Brothers, M. Davis, Stottlemyer, Mccreesh..

Pretty nice pool room with good tables.

I think the one day weekly/monthly tournaments within 1 hour of DC are starting to seem a lot more appealing to me....Somebody call me when a DC area tour is back.

When I read some of these comments here I come to the realizaion that some players just don't understand what is invollved with starting and running a Tour.
There is a lot of time, money and contacts invollved and it just doesn't happen over night.
Ask any past PP owner or staff like Danny G, Andy L, Ceci and Mike R.

Me and Jose feel the Tour is off to a super start averaging 54 Open players and 15 Lady players in the first 3 events. This is more that the tour averaged in it last full year in 2008. Plus the first three events were $2,000 added events which is unheard of in this area. We hope the remaining 7 will be the same.

Our main focus is on dealing with the rooms and filling the schedule will $2,000 Added events and running the Events. We are 2/3 there.
5 years ago we had a better economy, lots more big rooms, more staff, more budget, big sponsors. Today we are behind the 8 Ball with bad economy, struggling pool rooms, big rooms gone away, tight sponsors and so on. But we are still filling the schedule with $2,000 added events. Imagine that?

The secondary focus is to improve other things like internet info. This will happen.
Rome was not build over night and neither will this Tour......But we are off & running

And that is the flip side, Mike. We know it ain't something you guys do coz it is easy money.

The money doesn't flow so easy now, you are right...and it works both ways, makiing a Tour's work harder.

We DC peeps were spoiled once and ready to be spoiled again.

Points taken.....you might of included the results of this tourney in your post as that would be a good way to close this thread prior to posting your next event on this forum.

I do appreciate the fact that nobody gets rich and it's mostly an endeavor done from passion for the sport. I very much thank all those involved in trying to get this up and running again.

My opinion is that if you generated some excitement, buzz, and hype with posting results right after an event, you might get more sponsors, and this doesn't cost anything.

Another thing that I guess is out of your control is finding more rooms within an hour of DC willing to host the events. Speaking as one of the 70%-of-the-field "b" players who hope to cash (but don't really expect to on a regular basis), I'm not going to drive more than that. I'm sure many others feel that way. I realize that isn't your fault or in your control, but that's reality.

That being said...

How much money will it take to get the results and brackets posted within a few days of the tournament?

How much money will it take to get a ranking/points list maintained?

How much money will it take to send a little report to the major pool magazines?

How much money will it take to have each event streamed?

I'm not rich but I am willing to help for events within 1 hour of DC.
