Drill holes in playing area of slate GC IV??

Is this factory to have drill holes in playing area of slate. I recently purchased a used GCIV which had been screwed down in the center part of the slate. I believe the holes were filled with wax or some harder compound than the filled holes on the outer non playing area of the slate. I had quite a time digging the crap out to remove the screws in order to remove the slate from the frame. Any suggestions as to what to refill them with. Maybe this is why I got a good deal on the table. Although you could hardly tell the screws were there as it was a perfectly smooth finish above these screws. Just the color difference of the slate let me know there were screws in there.
I am also looking for a mechanic to install the table. located in Canada 1 hr from Detroit. Sarnia ONT. Canada. The local mechanic here had a frown on his face when I mentioned simonis cloth. I also have this table resting on carpet. I was thinking about letting the slate just sit on the frame for a month just to let it sink into the carpet before levelling it. Please let me know what you think. I would also like to try and use King Cobras direction as to how to level the frame and slate. I then could just have someone to install the cloth. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've never seen center slate holes on a GC4 before, but that don't mean someone who set the table up before didn't drill them for the purpose of holding down the center of the slates. Holes in the center are an indicator that the slates are crowned from side to side, meaning higher in the middle than the outer edges. It can also mean that someone didn't know what they were doing setting the table up in the first place, couldn't level the slates, and took them for being crowned and drilled the holes to install slate screws in an attempt to suck down the center of the slates to try and level them from side to side. GC4's use a neat leveling system, that if you understand it, works quite well. If you have any concerns about the holes, don't, as they can be filled in with bondo if they're not going to be used, but you won't know that until you set up the slates, to see if they're crowned in the first place.

When you set up the slates, make sure all the leveling bolts are lowered all the way first, then follow my instructions to get a level frame, then work on the slates next. Setting the table in place for 24 hours is enough time to settle the table in place, you don't need to wait longer than that. If you have any questions, call me.

Thanks, that does make me feel better about those holes in the center of my table, Hopefully I will just fill them in. Is there an easy way to tell if the slates are crowned?. I also am interested in the correct way to use the leveller's. Is there a sequence or order to use them. Also are you ever in Ontario Canada near Detroit?. I can wait for you to set it up if you will be in the area in the next month or two. I also have read your DVD preview instruction's on how to extend sub-rails. Great job. Thx. again

Thank you for the complement on the sub extentions, and I would love to come up to Canada, but as it's been explained to me at the border this last time up, "Glen, just consider this the great Canadian Ocean, and if you try ONE more time getting into Canada, you're going to find yourself drowning in more problems than you ever dreamed possible"...so, I'll have to pass on your request:D Sometimes I'm a slow learner, like getting married 3 times;) but after my forth warning at the boarder trying to take pool tables to Alaska...I got the message:D "If you don't want to drown, don't go swiming";) Follow my leveling instructions, get a level frame, then get one side level first.

When I was growing up, we rode hogs, and I don't mean Harleys:D but yes, we had horses too, but if you think I'm going to try pulling a trailer loaded with pool tables behind a horse, you've got another thing coming:D :D :D
