Final four as follows;
Efren played Earl. Bustamante played Thorston Hohmann.
Finals as follows;
Efren played Bustamante. Efren won!!!!!

I heard from some source Efren thrashed Strickland 12-0. Damn, that's just unforgivable.

Kind of relates to the thread about the greatest nine ball player. I know it's only one match but that is just pure ass kickin'
Still have not seen him in person but will eventually.

it happened in Colour of Money where Efren came back to win 120-117 or something like that

I dont' think Earl will ever forgive Efren, that is untill his death.It's just the most humiliating experience that ever happened to him. Considering that he is regarded as one of the best 9 ball player of the 20th century. For Busta, it's just an almost everyday occurance, no big deal if Efren beat him. They are big buddys anyway. Besides Efren is still one step better.

Is there any doubt in anyones mind who is the best player not only in the world today and for that matter of all time. Efren Is the king of pool.

Can someone explain to me why Reyes, Bustamante and Hohmann are in freakin' DUBAI when they are all UPAyours "touring Pros"? Don't they know that Charlie the Dragon is holding an event in NYC that they are obligated to attend? Didn't they sign the "new improved" contract that forces them to play in UPA events under threat of legal action if they do not? Will they now be banned from the UPAyours like Earl, Keith, Corey,and Troy? Or is there a double standard for the best players in the world? Are the inmates running the asylum? Inquiring minds want to know.

Pro players are not just members of an associations like UPA, they are also Ambassadors of their respective countries. If another country invites them for an exibition or a tournament, it is the country and the player who has a say not CW's UPA. You don't expect Efren and Busta play for UPA when the Asian games is ongoing, do you?

yes they would rather represent their country than attend some tournament, that's wut happened with the US open when Souqet won.

The last I heard the US Open was not a UPA event. So what's the point of arguing that players might go to Asia to play when there is no UPA event going on?

In case everyone has forgotted, the "new" UPA contract mandates that players attend UPA events under penalty of legal action and the player has to agree in advance to accept the court's decision without a fight.

That's why many have refused to sign and also why Efren, Francisco and Thorsten should have been in NY. There was more money in NY and some have signed an agreement. Does a legal commitment mean anything? Certainly, CW would not have granted waivers to the best players in the world to let them go to Dubai and make his event second rate. Will these players be punished? I think not, although Earl was thrown out without benefit of the UPA's appeal process.

The whole point of the UPA is to provide the best players at an event and make it worthwhile for sponsors. CW failed to do that.

Again, Ken, this is Charlie Williams, the wizard behind the Oz front known as UPA, making up the rules as he goes along to suit his needs. After all, it must be nice to use the UPA corporate credit card to pay for hotel bills, food, travel expenses. Where is the UPA financial accountability statement? New York City is expensive, and he drug out this event that could have been played in less time, but, of course, why would he care? He's got expenses paid by his members, the pool players who pay $100, sign a legally binding contract, only to regret it later.

Many pool players have not renewed their UPA membership, and now that this is happening, Charlie Williams has created this "touring pro" category. In his mind, this will force the pool players he wants on his UPA tour. Then he puts a stranglehold on independent promoters, telling them his members will not attend their event unless the independent promoter pays the UPA $1,500.

When is this young self-proclaimed president of the UPA union going to get it? He is hurting men's pool.

Again, UPA is not the main Association of these pro players, especially from Asia where pool is considered a big sport. These players are bound by their respective local sports committee. They are permanent members for international competitions. They can only play in UPA if they have no commitments to other countries. CW should be grateful they are listed as memebers of UPA or else it is already went into trash. The government of Dubai are trying to introduce pool to their people and the middle east, even though they don't have world class players,we should be happy that it is going international and not just CW's UPA. Now if CW cannot take this, then, as what Moses has said " Let my people go".

Let's get this right! The event was not in Dubai. It was in Fujeirah which is another Emirate of the UAE. Efren, Francisco, Ralf Souquet, Alex Lely, Fabio Petroni, Earl Strickland, Thorsten Hohmann had committments to this event long before the NY tournament was announced. It was a WPA sanctioned event and WPA President Ian Anderson was in attendance.

The UPA flyer stated that some of these players would be in the New York event and I hope that nobody bought spectator tickets on this basis.

Doug, so good to see you post on this forum. Most of us here in the States heard this event was in Dubai, and I followed the progress of this tournament on AzBilliards front-page news. Congratulations on what looks a spectacular tournament. You managed to get the top stars, and it looks like it was extremely successful.

Dragon Productions, or Charlie Williams I should say, scheduled a tournament at Amsderdam Billiards in NYC at the same time. I wonder why this happened, or better yet, how it could have happened.

Is there a website where one can find out more information about upcoming events such as Fujeirah a/k/a Dubai?

I am a witness to this as I was in Cardiff when the players were being approached. Unfortunately, not all of the invited players (maybe just one) played. What happened, Doug? Why did we have to find out at the last minute from a guy, Hisham, that we don't know and who wasn't the one who extended the invitation back in Cardiff that Dennis O got scr***d again.

From the 16 man field only 13 players were invited by myself.
Efren, Busta and Dennis (on my recommendation) were booked by the UAE Billiards Committee. I fully expected to see him on my arrival in the Emirates. However,I was informed that sources in the Philippines considered that Dennis was not ready to play at this level. I was disappointed with that decision as I think that he is a fine young player.

Thanks for the info Doug. I understand that "sources in the Philippines" do have long tentacles of which we know now reaches the Middle East. POLITICS! tsk tsk tsk.
