Dufferin 1pc cues?

Mase -

Thank you for posting catalog pics of the one piece cues. Would you do the same for Dufferin's two-piece cues please? I am a Dufferin fan and would love to know what they offered. Thank you.

Rick

These are from a 2000 catalog.

Thank you everyone for your responses!

With the info you have all provided me, It would appear to be the Brazilian Rosewood Hi-Run cue.

And the other is Purple Heart, also Hi-run.

One thing left for me to ask...

On almost all the pictures that I've been shown most the cues show that they have "Dufferin" + a weight stamp. Why doesn't either of mine? The shafts do not appear to have been modified?

Oh, and one more thing... what kind of ferrule? Its shorter then your average bar cue.

Thanks!

Dufferin made cues for many companies world-wide.
I have Dufferin cues with the Brunswick name on them...
..they made a lot of Rileys also, the British company.
I've seen at least 20 different names on cues made by Dufferin.
So many cues came through the process with no identification.

As to the ferrules...the long ferrule is a hang-over from ivory, which
needed the extra length....Dufferin made lots of long-ferruled cues, but
only on order...the extra length was considered redundant.

In my opinion, the short ferrules hit better.

Mase, thanks for uploading some pictures. I have a slightly older catalog I'll have to dig out too.

PickPocket: As far as I can recall, they started out with just a stamp for the weight, and then moved into having the logo as well as the weight. If yours came from a lot that was purchased in bulk, they may not have stamped them at all. Dufferin also offered custom engraving/burning on their Hi-Run series so you can find some with pool-hall names on them.

Mine is stamped "xxx Dufferin 20 oz".

Any idea what the xxx relates to?

Triple 'X' denotes 'second'
..they play as good as the 'firsts' but have cosmetic flaws....
...like brown marks in the wood

They were whole-saled at 25% off.

From Mace's pics, it's looks like I have a Phantom, which is cocobola and unused. I LOVE how this thing looks, but can't get used to the deflection, so would like to get a LD shaft fitted if possible.

How easy is it for a CM to fit a LD shaft to these, given the female part of the joint is in the butt? Would he need to remove the male part from the existing shaft and add it to the LD blank, or is it easy enough to do without?

Also, how do you remove the butt cap? There's a detachable bit on mine, with a 'square' type screw underneath, which you presumably unscrew, but the screw head won't fit any screwdriver I have, so how the hell do you get them out?

That about covers all my questions!

I can see why these are the top of the 1 pc cues! They both play great, and both are DEAD STRAIGHT!! I got lucky finding these! I think i will leave one as is, and convert the other. Ill post pics after I do, thanks again to you all!

Bollox. I was hoping it'd mean extra valuable or something. :frown:

I think the problem is the ferrule, which is lose and kinda dirty, even though the cue was unused when I bought it. Actually, there is a brown knot mark in the shaft, now you mention it.

Fine sleuthing, sir!

The ferrules are substandard...have it replaced.
And while you're at it...have the shaft re-tapered to 12 mm.
..make that a carom taper ( gradually getting smaller )
..this will make it play like an LD...but it will have more guts

Yeah, I'd thought of that. Might be a lot easier all round.

The house I recently bought had a cheap wood pool table and a bunch of cheaper cues, and an interesting Dufferin. It is a two piece with the signature joint. The shaft is flat laminated maple. The butt is ebony spliced into a flat laminated maple forearm. There are four 1/2" round transparent gold colored windows inset in the butt. Any idea what model or vintage ?

That would be a Dufferin Title.
The snooker cue in this model was the first two-piece cue to ever win
the world professional snooker championship...John Spencer, 1977....
..John beat Cliff Thorburn in the final, who was also using a Title.
