Dufferin sneaky ferrule material

I've got a Dufferin sneaky with the brass pin in the shaft. The ferrule is not quite flush with the shaft which I believe is responsible for the occasional

shanky hit. Is the problem fixable without replacing the ferrule? I enjoy the feel of these cues as I have played with several. If the ferrule does need

replacing, does anyone know what material this is? It does not clean up very well. Thanks!

I believe what you have there is the old cotton-fibre mtrl.
I say 'old' because the factory that made the mtrl. burned down and they're not making it anymore.
There are a couple of sources that are making their own version(s).
The problem with the orig. version was just what you experienced.
Being a cotton-fibre base, it would attract moisture and swell. It would also shrink in length.
It was a more than adequate ferrule mtrl. for it's time and place but you can certainly do better.
Any of the linen Melamines would make an excellent upgrade.
