I have serious doubts over the two methods you mentioned. Are you making stitch rings with these colors? Will the two colors be touching each other? If they are not touchining each other and are being used as stitch rings you can glue them in non dyed. Then color each line with a permanent marker after it is turned to size. That is the easiest way. Now if the two colors are touching you will have to dye the veneers first before gluing the two colors together. If you can find clothes or carpet dye in the color you want, mix a pan of dye and water to the color you want the veneer to be. Then submerge it in it for several days. Once you have checked it to make sure the dye penetrated all the way through let it dry for many days. If you are really in no hurry, press it between a couple of pieces of wood to maintain flatness while drying. But this will really slow down the drying time.
